News from around the web

After being knocked off the top of the North American box office last weekend by Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, Joker jumps back to the top with a very narrow margin while horror movie Countdown is the top new film.

A very interesting week on the US box office with 2 very close races, first the fight for the top, the original figures showed Joker going reclaiming number 1, but when the final figures came in not only were they higher than originally though but Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil had retained the top spot.

Also we have the other end of the top 5 where new entry Countdown was originally reported as coming in at 5 below Zombieland: Double Tap, but when the final figures were released, it was close, but the films flipped positions.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Disney's Angelina Jolie starring movie retains the top spot for a second weekend with a gross of $19.3 Million, it is only $120k above the weekend gross of Joker.

The film total gross after 2 weeks of release is $66.2 Million which is perhaps a little disappointing for Disney after the marketing they put into the movie.

Joker

The DC villain movie starring Joaquin Phoenix takes $19.2 Million and remains in the runner up spot for a second weekend.

The movie only narrowly was beat by the Maleficent sequel to return to the top and in early figures was the top film of the weekend.

The movie has now taken a US total of $277.9 Million after 4 weeks and is the highest grossing R rated movie.

The film is also the top total grossing movie on this weeks top 10 charts.

The Addams Family

As we enter Halloween week the Kookie family is at number 3 this week with $11.7 Million and has a total gross of $72.8 Million after 3 weeks.

Countdown

Highest new film of the week land down at number 4 with this shock horror movie which manages $8.8 Million on its debut weekend.

With Halloween this coming weekend the film MAY get a little boost but this movie will probably move to streaming in the coming weeks.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Another sequel which is perhaps performing a bit below expectation as the Zombieland sequel takes $8.7 Million and sits at number 5 this weekend.

This takes the films total gross to $44.1 Million after 2 weeks of release.

With a very narrow margin the Dwayne Johnson starring Rampage knocks A Quiet Place off the top spot after just one week.

Rampage, loosely based on the video game, takes over at the top with a weekend gross of $34.5 million.

Johnson's star is shining bright at the moment and after the success of Jumanji last Christmas it's no surprise this has become a big hit.

With a very small drop in takings form last weekend A Quiet Place falls to number 2, but with $32.6 million over the weekend it was a close call and the film is very close to a US total gross of $100 million.

New at 3 is Truth or Dare which takes $19 million for the weekend which at 4 is Ready Player One which takes $11 million for the weekend and brings the films total gross to $111 million in the US.

FInally in the top 5 is Blockers which takes $10 million for the weekend bringing the films total gross to $36 million.

The was a battle at the top of the Uk box office this week between The Hitmans Bodyguard and Dunkirk and with a gap of less than £50,000 Bodyguard won.

The comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson took £1.9 million on its debut weekend to reach the top, this is the lowest opening for a film to reach number 1 since Billy Elliot The Musical Live took the top spot in September 2014.

This means that the total gross for the top 15 films is also at a low with just £10 million taken.

Falling from the top is Dunkirk, although it held on tight and in the end lost to by a narrow margin taking to second place with £1.8 million.

Dunkirk is still showing strong figures from the week and took £4 million Monday - Sunday to brings its total to nearly £50 million, it is easily the second top grossing film of 2017.

Interestingly the Monday - Sunday figures puts The Hitmans Bodyguard at number 4 with Annabelle Creation and The Emoji Movie coming second and third.

Highest grossing film on the UK box office this week is Dunkirk while the longest running film is Despicable Me 3 with 8 weeks on the chart, its currently number 6.
