This weekend looked like it would be the week that Tenet was removed from the top of the UK box offie but despite the many new releases it hung on for an 8th weekend.

The event movie concert feature Micheal Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together is the top new movie of the week coming in impressively at number 2 while further down the box office the only other new movie is the documentary feature I Am Greta at number 8.

Worthy of mention this weekend is Hocus Pocus which was re-released last weekend and hit number 14 and this week increases by 51% and bounces to number 7.

Its also worthy of a mention that for the first time since 21st August 2020 the top 15 movies in the UK did not gross over a million combined, the total is £986K, and thats with a lot of new films hitting the market.

Here is the UK box office Quickview.

  • Number 1 - Tenet (8 weeks)
  • Highest debut - Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together (@2)
  • Longest run - Onward (19 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Tenet (£16,877,908)

Here is this weeks UK top 5 breakdown weekend 16th - 18th October 2020.

Tenet

Eight weeks on and the Christopher Nolan directed movie is still in the number 1 position, this week with its lowest weekend gross to date at £187.2K, a 37% drop from last weekend.

The movie has now taken £16.8 Million at the UK box office which is the directors 6th highest grossing movie, and its more that 20005's Batman Begins (not adjusted for inflation).

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe: Back Together

Event cinema has been a part of the box office for years now and in the current climate with the box office suffering due to a lack of big blockbuster movies we get a Micheal Ball and Alfie Boe concert as the top new movie of the weekend.

Entering at number 2 the event took £175K on its 2 days of release, Saturday and Sunday.

Saint Maud

Last weeks top new movie falls to number 3 this weekend with £132.2K which boosts the movies total gross to £520.3K after 10 days of release which is 45% down from its debut gross.

After We Collided

The surprise hit of late summer remains at number 4 this week with £107.4K over the weekend, 45% down from last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross in the UK of £3.7 Million after 7 weeks of release.

Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite!

Staying at number 5 is the Cats & Dogs sequel which takes &45.4K on its 3rd weekend of release, 40% down, giving it a £326K total.

Tenet spends a 7th weekend at the top of the UK box office, the longest for 20 years when Toy Story 2 and Gladiator both spent 7 weeks at the top in 2000.

This is unprecedented times but still it is note worthy that a movie can spend that much time at the top although it is with little competition, although After We Collided came close as did Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite! and this weeks top movie Saint Maud.

There are a number of new movies released this Friday and the bets are on that it could be the last weekend for Tenet, or just maybe the top new release this week might make the jump.

What is a worrying trend is the total top 15 this weekend is nearly a million pound down from last, meaning people are either still unsure of returning to cinemas, or they is nothing to draw them back!

Here is the this week UK box office Quickview (not including catalogue re-releases).

  • Number 1 - Tenet (7 Weeks)
  • Highest debut - Saint Maud (@2)
  • Longest run - Onward (18 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Tenet (£16,563,616)

Here is a rundown of the top 5 movies 9th - 11th October 2020.

Tenet

Seven weeks in and Christopher Nolans 'saviour' is still at the top of the UK box office and this week takes £296K.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £16.5 Million after 7 weeks of release and it is now the 5 highest grossing movie of 2020 or third highest movie released in 2020.

This weekends total of 53% down from last weekend which is one of the movies biggest drops week on week.

Saint Maud

Highest new movie of the weekend lands at number 2 in the shape of director Rose Glass's horror movie which despite landing at 2 takes £263.4K in a ever decreasing market.

The movie has been well reviews with even a hint of Oscar nods so we could see this have a long chart life and it still has a chance to hit the top.

Akira

The 1988 movie that kicked off the manga obsession in the West gets a re-release and re-enters the box office at number 3 with £201.1K.

After We Collided

Falling to number 4 this week is the Roger Kumble directed movie that has given Tenet a run for its money in recent weeks and takes £194.2K this weekend, down 50% from last weekend.

The movie has taken a very respectable £3.5 Million in the UK since release 6 weeks ago.

Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite!

Last weeks top new movie falls to 5 this weekend with £184.3K, down 60% from last weekend giving the movie a second week total of £715.2K.

The Chinese box office is far outpacing any other country at the moment and can be seen as a model of how to re-open your box office as two movies gross over $150 Million each.

Sequel movie My People, My Homeland and animated feature Legend Of Deification were so far ahead in the weekend takings not nothing else had a look in and the third place movie, Tenet, took a fraction over the same period.

Here is a quick look breakdown of the weeks top 15.

  • Number 1 - My People, My Homeland (1 weeks)
  • Highest debut - My People, My Homeland (@1)
  • Longest run - Onward (30 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Tenet ($307,100,000)

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies globally at the box office 2nd - 4th October 2020.

My People, My Homeland

The follow up to My People, My Country land on the Chinese box office at number 1 and hence lands on the global box office at the top with a weekend gross of $157.5 Million on its debut.

The movie directed by a whole host of directors and if it does as well at the previous movie could take near to $500 Million.

Legend of Deification

Called Jiang Ziya this animated fantasy tale hit the number 2 spot in China on its release being narrowly beaten by My People, My Country, but still the Teng Cheng and Li Wei directed movie took $151.7 Million to debut second globally.

Tenet

Falling to number 3 this weekend as the Christopher Nolan movie starts to slow down across the globe, this weekend it took $14.2 Million.

This pushes the movies total gross after 6 weeks to $307.1 Million.

The New Mutants

Disneys mutant movie goes back into the top 5 this weekend taking $1.95 Million at number 4.

This pushes the movies total global gross to $42.1 Million after 7 weeks of release.
