At the UK box office this weekend the Kenneth Branagh directed live action version of Cinderella from Disney makes it's debut at the top.

Cinderella took a reasonable £3.8 million over the weekend to see it to number 1, in comparison to last years Maleficent also from Disney based on a much loved animation it half the debut gross.

The film should do well in the next couple of weeks as its the school Easter holidays, but with Home still on release and Spongebob also out there it has competition.

Home falls from the top to number 2 this week in it's second weekend of release, a £2.6 million Monday to Friday sees it's gross now stand at nearly £10 million.

Other new film hitting the box office chart this week are: The Spongebob Movie Sponge Out of Water which lands at 3 but should do well over the Easter break, Get Hard which lands at 4, Seventh Son which has a disappointing debut at 7 and Wild Tales which enters at 9.

Ten years Ago - Hitch goes back to the top after surrendering the number 1 spot to Robots for a week, Robots falls to number 2.

Fifteen years ago - Another week at the top for Toy Story 2 while the top new film of the week was at number 5 in the shape of Magnolia

I know there are a couple of people out there who are looking forward to the second part of the last part of the seven part Harry Potter saga, so to get you all excited Warner has released a little video vignette for you to watch.

The video is mainly interviews with the 3 principles, but there are also small (and I mean small) clips of the new film, so keep you eyes peeled and finger on the pause if you want to take them in full.

The last ever Harry Potter film is due for release on July 15th so not long to wait until there is no more.

Keanu Reeves has been doing the full media circus of late to promote his new film Henry's Crime, which unfortunately failed to chart in the top 15 this week with a relatively low weekend gross of £64, 508, but while doing the rounds there was inevitable questions about the rumours of a new Bill and Teds movie, it's been 20 years now and according to Reeves there is a script although he's not seen it yet, but it may well happen.

It's also being reported that during a talk at the London School of Performing Arts Reeves said that he had met with the Wachowskis and discussed a possible return to the Matrix franchise. Reports say that the action will blow the mind in a similar way that the original, and best no argument, did back in 1999.

Throwing all this into confusion now is that reports are appearing that Reeves in fact didn't make any such statement, so what gives? One this that is for certain though is that with the amount of buzz that this possible untrue rumours has created means that there is certainly an appetite still out there for The Matrix, and although the 2 sequels never came anywhere near matching the original the series still has fans.

If the Wachowskis have noticed all this hype maybe they and Warner would sit round a table and work out a way to, successfully, bring this series back to the big screen, and yes it was rumoured to be in 3D.

It had a format war to deal with at it's conception which created a slow start for Blu-ray, but the BVA's (British Video Association) latest figure are encouraging for the format as it sees a 50% increase in sales in Q1 2010.

HD has been a hard sell to most but with players falling in price to under �100 and good sales of the Blu-ray equipped Playstation 3 sales of the disks rose to 2.7 million for the period so far in 2010.

The total Blu-ray disks sold so far is around the 15 million mark and sales are expected to rise fast this year and should see a massive boost by year-end. Launching a new format just as a recession hits cant have helped but it looks like the UK at least is becoming HD friendly.

For all us home movie enthusiasts out there this is great news, the studios which on the whole have been great releasing catalogue films should start releasing the likes of Lord of the Rings extended editions (I know it's coming, can you believe it's nearly 10 years?), The Back to the Future Trilogy (can you believe it's 25 years?) and the holy grail of films The Star Wars Trilogy before long.

Looks like there are rumblings around, this time from blog site marketsaw, that talks are afoot to produce a sequel to the Gremlins films in 3D.

Now I know that Avatar is set to be the biggest grossing film ever within the next few weeks, and this is something that cant be ignored, and there is certainly an argument that the reason is because it's the best example of 3D yet, but do all new Hollywood blockbusters need to be in 3D?

There has also been the odd rumor here and there of another 80's franchise being resurrected in 3D, that of Ghostbusters, so all the new 're-boots' are going to be in 3D are they, actually all 2011 big Hollywood blockbusters will be I think.

Personally it's nice to have a film in 3D, but the industry is in fear making this the norm, and eventually we'll either expect 3D or just ignore it.

There are plenty of arguments out there for there not to be 3D, is it a gimmick? It certainly doesn't improve the narrative and isn't cinema and film all about telling a story? Avatar works just as well when you see it in 2D.

Of course time will tell, but I sincerely hope 3D is here to stay, but lets limit it's use to films which will benefit from the effect, rather than making the film fit the 3D effect.
