News from around the web

Warner Bros. have released the first trailer for the third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series, The Secrets of Dumbledore.

It looks like were going back to Hogwarts, the school for wizards features quite heavily in the new trailer.

Also featuring quite heavily is the usual cast of Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Katherine Waterston to name a few.

Mads Mikkelsen is taking over the role of Gellert Grindelwald from Johnny Depp in this movie, and although we get to see him briefly in the trailer, we still left hanging.

Story and scope of the movie are still unknown but after the cliffhanger of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald there are plenty of loose ends to at least start tying up.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is directed once again by David Yates and will be released in April 15th 2022, COVID restriction allowing.

Sony and Marvel have released a new, much anticipated, trailer for the new Spider-Man movie, and it has plenty of multiverse villains, but only one Spider-Man!

The trailer gives more hints to the story, but still leaves many, many question to what is going on.

It looks like there is still only one Spider-Man in the trailer, although there are many quick shots where its hard to see what is happening, but what is clear is Doctor Octopus played by Alfred Molina plays a large part in the movie.

We also get to see Jamie Foxx and Thomas Haden Church as Electro and Sand Man, but although we get a clearer picture of Green Goblin its not revealed who is playing the villain.

There are many many hints about universes coming together, and if Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield are not in the movie then if nothing else its a missed opportunity.

The end shot of the trailer which features Spider-Man and Zendaya's character MJ in a life and death situation is very reminiscent of the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which starred Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released in the UK on 15th December 2021 and in the US on 17th December.

Marvels Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stays at the top of the US box office for an incredible fourth weekend as it becomes the top movie of 2021.

Making its North American debut at number 2 this weekend is the top new movie of the week, the musical Dear Evan Hanson.

  • Highest debut - Dear Evan Hanson (@2)
  • Longest run - Black Widow (12 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($196.4 Million)

North American box office top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th September 2021

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The incredible success of Shang-Chi has given the US and global box office a real boost and has shown the studios that there is still life in cinema despite the strong figures shown by streaming over the long global lockdowns during the pandemic.

This week the Marvel movie takes $13.2 Million on its fourth weekend of release, a 39% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total US gross of $196.4 Million, and the movie has now taken Black Widow at the top grossing movie in the US in 2021, the movie will pass $200 Million by next weekend giving the film another milestone, but there is plenty of competition around the corner so the movie will start its decline from next weekend.

Dear Evan Hanson

Making its debut at number 2 this weekend is music picture directed by Stephen Chbosky which takes $7.5 Million on its first weekend on the box office.

The movie has a niche market but has done well considering it potential audience, and recent similar movies like The Prom and Everybody's Talking About Jamie have gone direct to streaming.

Free Guy

The smash hit action comedy falls to number 3 this weekend but its success has been well received during the re-opening of cinemas, the movie takes $4.12 Million this weekend, a very slim 19% drop over last week.

The Shawn Levy directed movie has now taken $114.1 Million over its 7 weeks of release, it is currently the 6th top movie of 2021 in North America.

Candyman

The horror movie remake falls to number 4 this weekend with $2.5 Million, an average 29% drop, giving the film a $56.8 Million total over its 5 weeks of release.

Cry Macho

Clint Eastwoods latest movie falls to number 5 on its second weekend of release with $2.1 Million weekend, a large 52% drop, giving the movie an $8.3 Million US total.

Sony have released a new trailer for the Jason Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife which hit all Ghostbusters fans over the head with the nostalgia stick.

The first thing you notice about this trailer is the serious and horror tone of the movie, I know the originals were horror comedies, but this seems more like a Stranger Things style horror movie.

But saying that it looks like its going to be a lot of fun and the new kids do a great job of stepping into the Ghostbusters shoes.

As for the nostalgia, Annie Potts' Janine Melnitz turns up to give some wisdom about why Dr. Egon Spengler moved to a small American town, I hope she has a bigger role than the trailer suggest.

Also we see plenty of the old Ghostbusters equipment, a photo of the 4 originals, and the advert from the original movie plays throughout, and we get to see Paul Rudd have a strange Stay Puff Marshmallow Man experience in a supermarket!

Then in the end we get to see what is presumably Dr. Raymond Stantz, who seems to have the same phone number used in the original movie.

The movie gets a release on 12th November in the UK and a day eariler in America.

The first image of Tom Holland from the movie adaption of the Playstation video game Uncharted has been released which can be checked out below.

The Spider-man: Far From Home actor plays a younger version of the main character Nathan Drake in an Uncharted origins movie, something only touched on in the games.

The games heavily influenced by the Tomb Raider series which has a sequel to Tomb Raider due early next year, this is heavily influenced by the Indiana Jones series, Indiana Jones 5 is due 2022 so there is plenty of tomb raiding adventures on the horizon.

Also starring in the movie is Mark Wahlberg as Nathans friend and mentor Victor Sullivan, the story will in part focus on how the two met.

The movie is being directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and has a current release date of 16th July 2021, but with the back catalogue of 2020 film to be released this could move.

Also popping up in the movie, most likely as the bad guy is Antonio Banderas
