UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 6th - 8th May 2022

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness

It feels like a story we have told many time, but a new Marvel movie is released and there is a big surge in the box office and we have a massive hit at the top.

The sequel to Doctor Strange has been a long time coming as the original was released in 2016, but the character has appeared in many Marvel film since then, including quite predominantly in last years Spider-Man: No Way Home for which is a spiritual successor.

The road ahead is looking good for the movie, it will beat out the DC movie The Batman from earlier this year, and it has a shot at being the top movie of 2022, altohugh there are a number of high profile movie yet to come including Jurassic World: Dominion in June.

The movie already is the 6th top movie of 2022 on its debut and look set to at least climb into the top 3 by next weekend.

The movie has now taken an incredible $41 Million over its box office run, amazing when you think it started as a small independent movie in a handful of cinemas and has grown in critical response and will be a cult classic going forward.

The first trailer has been released for Avatar: The Way of Water which can be seen in full below.

The trailer is really little more than a show reel for the new movie, choosing to show clips from the film, there is no story which will be kept under wraps until the movie is released, the special effects look a bit rough as well, although the trailer was shown in 3D in cinemas which would add to the effect massively.

  • The movie is directed by James Cameron
  • It stars Michelle Yeoh and Zoe Saldana amoung others.
  • And has a release date of 16th December 2022.
  • It is a sequel to Avatar
  • Michelle Yeoh and Zoe Saldana appeared together in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
