The UK is still Ga Ga for La La Land and on its second weekend of release the film manages to keep hold of the number 1 spot holding off new film Split.

A fantastic second weekend gross of £4.3 million is enough to keep the film at the top which brings the films total gross to a very good £14.9 million.

Making its debut in the UK is Split which enters the UK at number 2 with a weekend gross of £2.5 million.

Its been a while since director M. Night Shyamalan had a big hit at the box office and it looks like he may have one here.

Favourable reviews will keep the film bringing in cinema goers and despite the fact that the film missed the top it will still do well.

Also new this week is xXx The Return of Xander Cage at number 3 with £1.6 million and Lion which makes its debut at number 4 with £1.2 million.

Longest running film this week is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which has now been on the box office for 10 weeks and the highest grossing film is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is now on £64.3 million.

Historical charts

A year ago - The Revenant stayed at the top for a second weekend while Ride Along 2 made its debut at number 2.

Five years ago - War Horse remained at the top of the UK box office while Haywire was the top new film at number 2.

Ten years ago - Rocky Balboa was the top new film which debuted at number 1 while The Pursuit of Happyness dropped to number 2.

Fifteen years ago - The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring spent its 5th week at the top of the box office, it held off Black Hawk Down which debuted at 2.

Twenty years ago - 101 Dalmatians stayed at the top again while The Ghost and The Darkness was the top new film at 2.

Twenty five years ago - Freddys Dead The Final Nightmare debuted at the top while Bill and Teds Bogus Journey fell to 2 after 2 weeks at the top.

Another big week for new releases and for the second week in a row an all new top 3 on the video chart with Goosebumps leading the way.

Starring Jack Black the film was released at the UK cinema on 5th February 2016 where it entered the UK box office at number 1.

The following week the film fell to number 5 and had a relatively short 6 week stay on the UK box office before disappearing.

In that time though the film did manage to gross a fairly reasonable £8.5 million although this is quite low for a Jack Black film for which King Kong is his highest grossing movie.

Also for director Rob Letterman it is his lowest grossing movie to date.

The rest of the top 3 reads like: Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie is new at number 2 and Ride Along 2 is new at number 3.

Last weeks top film Spotlight falls right down to number 8 this week.

Soccer documentary Bobby is also new this week at number 12.

At the world box office this week King Fu Panda 3 makes an impressive debut at the top of the box office from 7 countries.

making a world wide debut of $116 million the film leads the pack by quite a considerable margin with the US being the top market the film was released in.

Falling a single place this week is The Revenant which falls to number 2 with $36 million, this brings the Oscar nominated films world gross to $274.7 million, and Oscar is still to come.

Highest total grossing film is still Star Wars: The Force Awakens which this weeks adds $23.3 million bringing its total gross now to over $2 Billion, only the third film ever to do so.

Avatar was the first with Titanic following, interestingly both these film took a second release to do it, although with Titanic it was years later unlike Avatar which was a year later.

Here is the full world wide box office top 10:

  1. Kung Fu Panda 3 - $116,700,000
  2. The Revenant - $36,700,000
  3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $23,382,000
  4. The 5th Wave - $20,000,000
  5. Ride Along 2 - $13,445,520
  6. Alvin And The Chipmunks The Road Chip - $13,235,000
  7. Dirty Grandpa - $13,075,000
  8. The Finest Hours - $11,927,000
  9. The Boy - $11,394,000
  10. The Big Short - $9,800,000

Despite the fact that it is very slowly starting to slow down The Force Awakens manages another week at the top without too much of a challenge.

Its lowest weekend gross since release the seventh Star Wars film takes $72.4 million across the globe which brings its total to $1.8 billion dollars, $2 billion is just around the corner.

The film is the number 3 top grossing film and on current form could even struggle to become the second top grossing film, it has Avatar and Titanic in its way and the $2.8 billion of Avatar seems out of reach now.

Top new film is Ride Along 2 which is new at 3 with a $42 million opening weekend from 12 countries, the USA being the best of those.

Top grossing film on the world box office this weekend is The Force Awakens, and lets face it it will be until it leaves the chart.
