News from around the web

There have been many adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes character, but I suspect not many like this.

Starring Will Farrell and John C. Reilly this is a slapstick version of the famous British detective.

Released on 26th December 2018 the film has been given a 12A rating by the BBFC for moderate sex references, drug references, infrequent strong language and it has a run time of 90 minutes (1hour 30 minutes).

Finishing off this week we have the first trailer for new comedy Holmes And Watson starring buddies Will Farrell and John C. Reilly.

The very British crime fighting duo and in fine comedic form in the film and it looks like Farrell and Reilly pull of the Britishness with ease.

Expect lots of slap stick comedy in this silly looking but funny turn, it will keep you Holmies happy until the new Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. comes around.

The film is due for release on Boxing day of 2018 and you can check out the first trailer below.

Commanding the box office in even greater fashion than last week Jurassic World scores the second highest second weekend gross in the UK, the holder being Skyfall from 2012.

With £11 million Jurassic World takes it's total gross to £38.5 million and should see it become the highest grossing film of the year by next weekend.

Rolling into second place on it's debut is the event film Take That Live, recoded earlier this year at the O2 arena in London the film grosses £965,000 on its Saturday only showing.

Highest new film' of the week is new at number 4, the ever popular charter of Sherlock Holmes is played by Ian McKellen in Mr. Holes which debuts with £741.080.

Historical charts

A year ago - The Fault In Our Stars made its debut at the top of the box office knocking 22 Jump Street from the top to number 2.

Five years ago - Killers starring Aston Kutcher debuted at the top finally knocking Sex and The City 2 down to number 2 after 3 weeks at the top.

Ten years ago - The Batman revamp Batman Begins made it's debut at the top while the previous weeks top film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, fell into second place.

Fifteen years ago - Gladiator was still holding onto the top position while the top new film of the week was Frequency.

Twenty years ago - Action film Bad Boys was the top film across the country which knocked The Brady Bunch Movie down to number 2.

Tangled maintained its position at the top of the UK box office chart this week with a non-too shabby weekend gross of £4,569,135 which is only down just over half a million on the previous week, not bad, this means also that the overall gross over 10 days stands at £ 10,742,265.

Retaining it number 2 spot is The Kings Speech which is still managing to impress, not only at the box office but at the continuous awards ceremonies at this time of year, a weekend take of £2,739,204 brings its gross of 5 weeks to £30,014,606.

Highest new entry of the week The Fighter, another Oscar contender for many awards the film stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale and is directed by David O. Russell. A weekend take of £ 2,118,140 is good considering the competition.

Black Swan drops a single place to 4 with £1,725,630 while new at 5 is the James Cameron presented Sanctum, it's not doing the same numbers as a Cameron directed film and is maybe a little disappointing with £ 859,064.

Again this weeks box office is a little higher than this time last year where Avatar was still the top film and still raking in a weekend take of over £4million. Highest new entry was Disney's The Frog Princess with Astro Boy following and Invictus not far behind. Sherlock Holmes was still hanging onto the top 5.
