Sony had a runaway hit with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse earlier this year, even winning the Oscar for best animated feature, so its no surprise they have announced a sequel for release in 2022.

The exact date of release is April 8th 2022, not much more is known about the sequel yet although I guess we will get drip fed information until the release date.

Its no surprise they are releasing a sequel, the first film made $375 Million globally, and as they are sharing profit for the movie franchise with Disney this keeps their hand in the Spider-universe.

They also have their Spider-villain franchise going with Venom for which their is a sequel due next year.

There was a rumour that Tom Holland would be in the Spider-Verse sequel as the real life Spider-Man who gets sucked into the animated world, that would be fun if true.

Aquaman continues to show its might as it stays at the top of the global box office for a third weekend with little change across the whole of the top 10.

Aquaman

The James Wan directed movie still continues to reign at the top of the global box office with $136.9 million over the weekend from 79 countries, the films total global gross is now $748.7 million.

Bumblebee

Bumblebee is at number 2 globally with a weekend gross of $66 million from 56 countries, this brings the films total global gross to $156 million.

Mary Poppins Returns

The Disney hit is at number 3 globally as the film takes $57 million from 38 countries over the weekend, globally it has now taken $173.3 million.

Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse

Sonys animated hit is at number 4 this week with $45.7 million from 61 countries, this boosts the films gross to $231.2 million globally.

The Grinch

Finally on the top five this week is the Holiday hit which takes $21 million fron 70 countries to bring its total gross to $469.4 million.

Mojin: The Worm Valley

Highest new film of the week is at number 9, the Chinese film is only released in 2 countries and takes $16.7 million on its debut.

Its the last box office of 2018 and in a year dominated by Marvel superhero movies the DC Universe ends the year strong with Aquaman at the top.

Aquaman

Warner Bros. are finally enjoying the kind of box office figures for a superhero movie that Disney and Marvel have enjoyed in recent years and the DC Universe origin movie holds the top spot with a Christmas weekend gross of $51 million.

This boosts the films total US gross to $188.7 million after 2 weeks of release, and gives hope a little hope to the DC Universe of movies.

Mary Poppins Returns

Sitting pretty at number 2 is Disney's sequel movie which takes a very reasonable $28 million over the weekend which boosts its total gross to just under $100 million, it will reach this milestone next week.

Bumblebee

The Transformers origin movie takes third place again this week with a weekend gross of $20 million which boosts the critically praised film to $66.7 million after 2 weeks.
