Streetdance 3D: Film review and trailer  Express Fri, 21st May 2010

The actor formally known as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, takes his starring vehicle San Andreas to the top of the UK box office on it's debut weekend of release.

Taking an acceptable, if low, £4.6 million over the Friday - Sunday weekend San Andreas is by far the biggest hit for the actor in a primary role.

The biggest film he has appeared in, although as an ensemble cast of many stars is Fast and Furious 7 from this year which is still doing well at the box office.

Pitch Perfect 2 falls to number 2 this week after 2 weeks at the top, to date the film has taken £14 million in the UK.

Also new this week is Man Up starring Simon Pegg at 7 and Danny Collins starring Al Pacino at number 10.

Historical Charts

A year ago - Maleficent made its debut at the top of the charts knocking X-Men Days of Future Past down to number 2 after a week at the top.

Five years ago - The critically panned Sex and The City 2 made it's way to the top while StreetDance 3D fell into second.

Ten years ago - Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith was still the the top film in the country while House of Was was the highest new film at 2.

Fifteen years ago - Oscar winning Gladiator was still topping the charts and with a fairly static top 3 the highest new film was Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo at 4.

Twenty years ago - Street Fighter remained at the top with the highest new film Richie Rich at number 2.

Not a great deal going on in the UK box office this week with the highest new entry coming in at 4 and the top of the chart remaining unchanged as Sex And The City 2 extends to 2 weeks.

Carrie and her friends remains as the top grossing film of the weekend in the UK adding nearly £2.5 million to its total, this gives the film a decent £13.6 Million UK total gross.

In fact the full top 3 remains the same as last week with StreetDance 3D holding number 3 and Prince of Persia at number 3. The highest new entry was the American remake of a British film from a few years ago, Death at a Funeral, which comes in at 4 with only £ 696,280.

It may have stumbled in the US but the ladies of Sex and the City had no trouble conquering the UK box office over the weekend with a mighty haul of just over £6 million.

This is an incredible debut for a sequel movie, and considering the terrible reviews the film has for Sex And The City 2 is going to be a hit like its predecessor.

Still doing well is the British dance film StreetDance 3D which fell one place to number 2, but it didn't really stand a chance against the might of Sex and the City ladies, but the film has still grossed over £5 million in total.

And performing in a similar way Prince of Persia: Sands Of Time also fell one place to 3rd on its second week of release taking a little over £1.6 Million for a £4 million total gross.
