Next week there is 1 new movie

  • Jurassic World: Dominion - Friday, 10th June

It was a relatively close race at the UK box office this week, and one with low figures, but in the end Sausage Party remained at the top for a second week.

The Seth Rogan written film took £1.2 million on its second weekend of release which brings its total gross in the UK to £5.3 million.

Highest new film of the week is the remake of Ben-Hur which lands at number 2 this week with a debut gross on £1.05 million.

It hard to judge how this compares to the 1959 classic as attendance figures are hard to come by but it is considered a classic and it would have grossed nearly £100 million in todays money.

Also new this week is the US smash hit Don't Breathe at number 4 and Kubo and The Two Strings at number 5, Hell or High Water at number 7.

The BFG is the longest stay on the box office this week having been around for 8 weeks while Finding Dory is the highest total grossing movie with £40.8 million.

Historical charts

A year ago - This time last year Legend made its debut at the top of the box office knocking Straight Outta Compton down to number 4.

Five years ago - The Inbetweeners Movie made it 4 weeks at the top while the top new film entered at number 2 in the shape of Friends With Benefits.

Ten years ago - You Me and Dupree made it 3 at the top while top new film was Right At Your Door at number 3.

Fifteen years ago - Moulin Rouge made its debut at the top of the UK box office, it knocked A Knights Tale down to number 3 after only a week at the top.

Twenty years ago - There was no stopping mega blockbuster Independence Day which stayed at the top on its 5th week of release while top new film was Chain Reaction at number 3.

Twenty five years ago - Terminator 2 Judgement Day was still at the top of the box office while top new film was Jungle Fever at number 3.

Once again the Warner Bros. Anti-Hero ensemble tops the global box office chart, but it does loose ground to The Secret Life of Pets, Ben-Hur is the top new film.

With $58.7 million, from 65 countries, in global takings over the week Suicide Squad keeps itself ahead of the pack, this brings the films total gross over half a billion now to $572.6 million.

Coming in new at 3 is the 2016 remake of Ben-Hur which takes $22 million on its debut week of release from 24 countries.

The film has got very low keys reviews in America which could effect its gross in other countries when released and might sink quite fast.

Other new film this week are War Dogs at 4 and Kubo And The Two Strings at 10 from 9 countries .

Highest total grossing film on this weeks global box office is The Secret Life Of Pets, still at 2 with $674 million and still released in 54 countries.

Here is the global top 5.

  1. Suicide Squad - $58,710,000
  2. The Secret Life Of Pets - $50,772,240
  3. Ben-Hur - $22,050,000
  4. War Dogs - $20,800,000
  5. Jason Bourne - $19,275,865

No change at the top of the US box office this week as the Anti-heroes of Suicide Squad make it 3 weeks at the top, while at number 3 War Dogs is the highest new film.

In a relatively quiet week for new releases Harley Quinn and co. take another $20 million over the 3 day weekend with their total gross now pushed to $262.2 million.

Highest new film of the week if the Jonah Hill starring War Dogs which takes $14.3 million, it comes in ahead of Kubo and the Two Strings and the 2016 remake of Ben-Hur.

The quiet late summer weekend also sees little movement in the lower end of the chart with the longest stay being The Secret Life of Pets again, it is also once again the highest total gross with $346.7 million.
