A new Marvel movie, a new number 1 as Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness hits the top spot on its debit weekend with a debut gross of nearly £20 Million.
There were a number of other new movies this week but at the lower end of the box office with the Event Movie Turnadot: Met Opera 2022 coming in at 9 with £38,527 while Maa is new at 11 with £38,527.
Also making their debut's this weekend Dum Mastam at 12 with £27,162, CBI 5: The Brain makes its way onto the box office at 13 with £26,418 and finally the 50th anniversary re-release of Cabaret is new at 15 with £19,238.
UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 6th - 8th May 2022
It feels like a story we have told many time, but a new Marvel movie is released and there is a big surge in the box office and we have a massive hit at the top.
The sequel to Doctor Strange has been a long time coming as the original was released in 2016, but the character has appeared in many Marvel film since then, including quite predominantly in last years Spider-Man: No Way Home for which is a spiritual successor.
The movie makes its UK debut with £19.7 Million, a staggering 82% of the box office this weekend, which is £10 Million more than its 2016 predecessor but it is way shorted than the £31.8 Milion of the last Spider-Man movie.
The road ahead is looking good for the movie, it will beat out the DC movie The Batman from earlier this year, and it has a shot at being the top movie of 2022, altohugh there are a number of high profile movie yet to come including Jurassic World: Dominion in June.
The movie already is the 6th top movie of 2022 on its debut and look set to at least climb into the top 3 by next weekend.
A single week at the top for the Downton Abbey sequel which this weekend falls to number 2 with £1.5 Million, a 49% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a total gross of £7.6 Million after 2 weeks of release.
The smash hit video game movie falls to number 2 this weekend after 6 weeks on the box office with £630,391, a 53% drop over last weekend.
The movie now has a UK total of £23.5 Million and is the 5th top movie of 2022.
The action comedy falls to 4 this weekend with £468,402, a 61% drop over last weekend, this gives the movie an £8.6 Million total after 4 weeks of release.
The third in the Fantastic Beasts series can be seen as nothing but a flop for Warner Bros. as the movie falls to 5 this weekend with £401,448, a 67% drop.
The movie has now taken just £19 Million in the UK over 5 weeks of release, it is the 7th top movie of 2022.
In comparison the previous 2 movies 5 weeks into their box office runs were, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them £45 Million and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald £30.5 Million.
Remaining at the top of the global box office this weekend is the Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg starring video game adaptation Uncharted.
There are no new releases on the box office this weekend as the world waits for the release of The Batman this coming weekend.

Global box office top 5 weekend breakdown 25th - 27th February 2022
Remaining at the top of the global box office for a second weekend is the video game adaptation directed by Ruben Fleischer which takes $58.2 Million on its third weekend of release from 65 countries.
The movie drops 41% on its week on week take but the movies total global gross is now $226.3 Million which makes it the 4th top grossing movie of 2022.
The Kenneth Branagh directed movie spends its third weekend on the box office and remains at number 2 with a gross of $15.1 Million from 48 countries, a 42% drop.
The thriller has now taken $101.2 Million globally and is the 9th top grossing movie of 2022.
The Marvel/Sony movie is having a bit of a resurgence globally as the smash hit climbs back up from number 6 to number 3 this weekend with $12.7 Million from 64 countries, a very slim 17% drop on its 11th weekend of release.
The movie has now taken an amazing $1.85 Billion globally and is the second top movie of 2022 and the 6th top movie of all time.
Jumping up a spot on its second weekend of release is the Channing Tatum starring movie which takes $12 Million from 19 countries, a 26% drop over last weekend.
The movie now has a global total of $35.1 Million after 2 weeks of release.
The smash hit Chinese sequel is released in 5 countries and this weekend takes $10.9 Million, a 44% drop over last weekend, but the movie has taken $601.9 Million globally and is the top movie of 2022.
As predicted with the surge in COVID-19 cases in the US, the big movie of the holiday season, Wonder Woman 1984, will debut on steaming and cinema on the same day.
The Patty Jenkins directed movie will get the duel release in the US with no word yet on if the Boxing Day release in the UK is changing or a streaming option will be in place as well.
The movie has been changed from earlier in 2020 to later in 2020 a couple of time finally settling for a Christmas release.
With COVID-19 cases on the increase in the US and the UK on a lockdown until early December Warner Bros. have decided to dual release it.
With a vaccine almost imminent this could be perhaps the last big film to get this type of release, altohugh with Universal seemingly a fan of short release windows who know, but thats a story for another day.

With US cinemas still showing no signs of fully re-opening due a massive surge i the COVID-19 pandemic the box office figures are still largely relying on drive-ins
This week the low budget Relic hits the top of the 'box office' on its debut with the rest of the charts moving around but the numbers are all quite small!

Directed by Natalie Erika James on her debut this low budget horror movie stars Emily Mortimer and takes $192K on its debut and is the top movie of the week.
The movie has now surely reached cult status and has been the most dominant movie during the pandemic closures and this week it moves back to number 2 with $25K.
After 10 weeks the movie has now made $1.6 Million at the US box office.
The Antoine Le directed movie is at 3 this week with $23K and after 3 weeks has taken $423K.
5 weeks in and the Lulu Wilson starring movie takes $20K for the weekend and $903K in total.
Channing Godfrey Peoples directs this movie about a black beauty pageant which takes $11K this week for a 2 week total of $70K.
