News from around the web

The Wizarding World has moved on from Harry Potter and a new era is here with Fantastic beasts and Where To Find Them, which this weeks predictably hits the top in America.

The film may not have hits the heights that were expected as the film makes its debut with with $75 million dollars (£60 million) but still is a fantastic debut.

This debut is no where near as big as any of the Harry Potter film, but to many that series of films defined the Wizarding World, but this new series has had better reviews so may last longer, Potter films tended to be front loaded.

Still doing well is last weeks top film, Doctor Strange, which only falls into second place this week with $17.6 million and a total gross of $181.5 million, this also makes it the highest total grossing film on the US box office.

Also new this week in America are The Edge of Seventeen at number 7 with $4 million and Bleed for This at number 8 with $2.3 million.

Longest running film on the box office this week is The Accountant which has been on the box office for 6 weeks and this week is at number 9.

Keeping a strong hold of the US box office on its second week of release is Doctor Strange which held off not only smash animated film Trolls but top new film Arrival.

A second weekend gross of $43 million brings the US gross of the Marvel film to $153 million after 10 days of release.

This is keeping the film well in line with many of the Marvel film and its looking good for the Benedict Cumberbatch film going forward.

Highest new film of the week is the Denis Villeneuve directed Arrival, which lands on the US box office at number 3.

The high brow drama of aliens arriving on earth with no communication with anyone stars Amy Adams and takes $24 million on its opening weekend.

Doctor Strange is the highest total grossing film on the US box office this week but the longest running film is The Accountant which notches up 5 weeks this week and is at number 6

There were plenty of contenders this last weekend that tried to topple the Marvel film Doctor Strange but none were good enough so the good doctor spends another week at the top.

A weekend gross of £3.4 million takes the films total UK gross to £15.7 million, very good indeed and on course to be one of the better Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Coming in highest is The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, a debut weekend gross of £1.6 million brings it in at number 3.

There are 3 other new film this week, at 4 is a Street Cat Named Bob, at 5 is Nocturnal Animals and at number 6 is The Light Between Oceans.

Bridget Jones's Baby is the top total grossing film of the week with an incredible £46.1 million and its is also the longest running film at 8 weeks.
