After the re-opening of some cinemas across the US, movie theatres continue to open but at a slower rate and the box office has levelled off a bit, although still higher during the height of the pandemic.

Tenet remains at the top of the list as you would expect and the little hyped movie Infidel is the top new movie of the weekend.

For the first time in a few weeks there is a film inside the top 5 that didn't take over a million over the weekend.

Here is the top 5 movie in the US weekend 18th - 20th September 2020.

Tenet

Another weekend for director Christoper Nolans 'saviour of cinema' as the mixed reviewed movie takes $4.7 Million over its third weekend of release.

This gives the movie a total US gross of $36.1 Million, the movie is being considered a flop, but in these difficult times it was bound to fail, in reality we dont know what would have happened had the situation been normal.

It is looking like the movie could make a move to VOD sooner rather than later, but with many people still not prepared o go the to movie theatre we could see an Onward situation where the movie continues its box office run while available on VOD, a trend which is worrying for the cinema industry.

The New Mutants

Disney's troubled mutant movie stays at number 2 this weekend with a gross of $1.6 Million taking its total gross to $17.7 Million after 4 weeks of release.

This has undoubtably been a miss for the studio, but ironically it may make the same money under the pandemic as it would have had it been released normally.

Infidel

Highest new movie of the week is this political action flick directed and written by Cyrus Nowrasteh who previously brought us The Young Messiah in 2016.

The film takes $1.5 Million on it debut weekend of release and is at number 3.

Unhinged

Another movie which has arguably had more exposure under the COVID-19 pandemic than it would normally is this Russell Crowe film which takes $1.3 Million on its 6th weekend of release for a $15.7 Million total and falls to number 4.

The Broken Hearts Gallery

Falling to number 5 this week is the romantic comedy directed by Natalie Krinsky which takes $800K on its second weekend for a total of $2.4 Million.

Tenet remains at the top of the UK box office for a third weekend while After We Collided get an increase in cinema count and get an impressive leap to number 2.

Highest new 'movie' of the weekend is the Event Cinema release of the K-Pop band BTS in concert while the top new film is The Broken Hearts Gallery which misses out on a place on the top 5.

In a downward spiral for the second weekend running the top 15 movies grossed less than the previous weekend, this could be down to no new film being released or people not willing to venture to the cinema in the current climate, the rela test will be when the next big movie comes out, although release dates are starting to shift again.

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movies in the UK 11th - 13th September 2020.

Tenet

No surprise that the Christopher Nolan movie is the top film in the UK for the third weekend in a row, and with a weekend gross of £1.2 Million the movie is slowing fast.

The movie has now taken £12.4 Million in the UK, the good news is its now the 8th top movie of 2020, to date.

After We Collided

After a good debut last weekend the movie got a significant increase in screen count this week giving the Roger Kumble directed movie a good boost and the movie climbs to number 2 with £422.6K.

This puts the movies total UK gross at £763.6K after 2 weeks of release.

Break the Silence: The Movie

The many fans for K-Pop band rushed out this weekend to see the bands latest live movie event to the tune of £374K making the top new entry of the week.

The New Mutants

Disney's troubles mutant movie from the X-Men universe fall to number 4 this weekend with £200.6K in takings.

This puts the movies total gross at £1.1 Million after 2 weeks of release, ironically I'm not sure if the film would have done any better in a fully functioning market!

Onward

It not all bad news for Disney as their Pixar movie Onward spends a 14th weekend the top 5, at 5, with £97.2K taking its total gross to £7.06 Million.

As you would expect the saviour of cinema is still the top movie of the week, and unlike last weekend Warner Bros. have released more accurate figures for the weekend gross this time.

Last weekend Warner Bros. only released the total gross for the movie, which included 7 days extra of Canadian release and preview figures for the American release, although to be honest this is nothing new!

Further down the box office list the top 3 movies stay the same while The Broken Hearts Gallery is the top new movie of the weekend and all but 1 of the top 5 grosses over a million for the period.

Here is a rundown of the top 5 movies in North America 11th - 13th September 2020.

Tenet

Christopher Nolan's much praised, and much disliked, movie spends a second weekend at number 1 with a gross of $6.7 Million, which when compared with last weekends real figure of $9.5 Million as released by Warner Bros. this isn't too bad a drop.

This of course is under unusual circumstances as many cinemas in America are still closed and many more people still dont want to go to the cinema due to health concerns, couple this with the limited capacity and you get a clear picture of how the grosses are working in the current climate.

This has though pushed the movies total North American gross to $29.5 Million over its 2 weekends of release.

The New Mutants

Hanging on in second place is Disney's mutant movie which this week takes $2.09 Million in the US.

The movie has a total gross of $15.3 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Unhinged

The Russel Crowe starring movie remains at number 3 taking $1.5 Million over the weekend which gives it a 5 week total gross of $13.8 Million.

The Broken Hearts Gallery

Highest new movie of the weekend lans at number 4 and is Natalie Krinsky directorial debut.

The movie takes $1.1 Million on its debut, which is perhaps a little lower than expected especially in the current climate and the romantic escapism the movie offers.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

The third Bill And Ted movie falls to number 5 this weekend with $292.6K bringing its 3 week box office total to $2.8 Million.

This has been a real shame for the movie which got a release on streaming the same time as a theatrical release and will have basically destroyed its potential box office gross.
