News from around the web

It was a second weekend at the top for Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs And Shaw with the only challenge coming from Disney's The Lion King, Chinese film Line Walker 2 was the top new film.

Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw

The summer action crowd pleaser starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham knocks up a second weekend at the global box office with a gross of $86.2 Million from 67 countries.

This puts the films total gross at $322.6 Million after its second weekend of release but there are some big markets still to come like China where The Fast And The Furious movies have always done well.

The Lion King

Disney's live actio movie is at 2 and takes $71.4 Million on its 5th weekend of release from 55 countries which puts its total global gross at an amazing $1.33 Million.

There is some debate of the film qualifies or not but this could be seen as the most successful animated movie of all time.

Ne Zha

The Chinese animated movie falls to 3 this week with a weekend gross of $64.4 Million and the film is still only release in a single country.

Amazingly this puts the film total gross at $507.3 Million and is China's 5th highest grossing movie of all time.

The Bravest

Also doing well in the Asian market is fire fighting movie The Bravest which takes $28.8 Million this weekend from 4 markets to push its total global gross to $163.6 Million.

Line Walker 2

From director Jazz Boon comes sequel movie Line Walker 2 which is the top new entry on the global chart this week with $27.8 Million from 4 markets this weekend taking its total gross to $61.0 Million since release.

The Lion kings reign over the UK box office came to an end the weekend with The Fast And The Furious Presents Hobbs And Shaw taking over at the top on its opening weekend while The Angry Birds Movie 2 disappoints on its debut.

Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw

Universal starts to spread the wings of its very successful Fast & Furious series with a spin off using the characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw.

The film opens well in the UK, although not as well as the parent movie since episode 6, but a £6.3 Million opening weekend is still good.

The film takes 40% of the grosses on this weeks top 15.

The Lion King

Disneys CGI live action movie takes £5.1 Million over the weekend to push its UK gross to an incredible £50.7 Million after 3 weeks of release.

This makes the film the third highest grossing film of the year with Toy Story 4 and Avengers: Endgame ahead of it.

Over the full week Monday - Sunday the films gross is £13 Million far outgrossing Hobbs And Shaw, and if you take away the Thursday previews then the Disney movie also outgrosses the number 1 film.

Toy Story 4

The Pixar animation falls to number 3 this week with £1.3 Million which gives the film a £55.4 Million gross after 7 weeks of release.

Spider Man: Far From Home

Marvels team up with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU is on its 5th weekend and takes £862 Thousand at number 4 for a £32.9 Million total.

The Angry Birds Movie 2

Making its debut at number 5 this week is the follow up to 2016 movie The Angry Birds which took £2.1 Million on its debut and entered the box office at number 2.

The follow up manages a debut weekend of a little over £700 Thousand.

Aladdin

Guy Ritchie's live action Disney movie has been the surprise summer hit and this week is at number 13 with a total UK gross of £36.3 Million after 11 weeks of release.

Despite competition from the British beloved comedy that is Ab Fab, The Life of Pets remains at the top of the UK box office for a second weekend.

In its second weekend The Life of Pets takes a gross of £4.7 million, this brings the films total gross to an very good £16.6 million after 2 weeks, the films weekly gross is over £7 million.

Highest new entry of the week in Absolutely Fabulous The Move which makes its debut at number 2, a weekend gross of £4.02 million.

The film version of the British comedy comes nearly 25 years after the TV series started on BBC and amazingly it still has all the original cast including leads Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders.

A good run should be in order for the film although as is often the case with TV to movie adaptation it will probably spend a lot of time in cinemas but out of the charts.

Also new this week is Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence which is new at 3.

Highest total grossing and longest running movie on the box office this week once again is The Jungle Book which over 12 weeks has grossed £47 million.

Despite having the connection to the Despicable Me franchise The Secret Life of Pets for a new franchise makes an very good debut, in comparison it is far higher that the first Despicable Me but lower than the franchises other films.

With the summer holidays in the coming weeks this could have staying power, and there is little competition until mid July.
