News from around the web

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker has been passed uncut in the UK and given a 12A age rating by the BBFC.

The last film in the Skywalker sage from the Star Wars films is going to be a big deal, and director JJ Abrahams is bringing that vision to cinemas on 19th December 2019.

The film stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammill, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley as the characters we have come to love over the last 42 years.

Although this isn't the end of Star Wars it is the end of the journey stared by George Lucas in 1977 and wll be celebrated.

The BBFC have given the film a 12A age rating for moderate violence, threat and it has a runtime of 141 minutes (2 hours and 21 minutes) and the film was passed uncut.

The Chinese box office exploded this past week and Journey to The West The Demon Strikes Back took over at the top of global box office with release in just 7 countries.

Two other Chinese releases also did really well in the shape of Buddies In India and Kung Fu Yoga starring Jackie Chan.

The Journey to The West sequel $85 million over the week and was far and away the top film globally, a quiet week across the rest of the world helped.

Split fell from the top to number 4 this week with a weekly gross of $41 million which brings its total gross to $101.6 million from 36 countries.

Also new this week is Buddies In India which is at number 2, released in 3 countries it takes $44 million across the globe this week.

Again due to its Asian release Kung Fu Yoga lands at number 5 this week, released in 5 countries the film takes $40 million.

Highest total grossing movie on the global box office this week is Sing which has now taken $463.7 million and is still released in 62 countries.

It's good to see that filming of The Hobbit has started after what seems like an endless stream of delays from copyright issues to ill health from the director.

The journey so far has been well documented and includes scripting issues, rights issues, director issues but the film is in the right hands and come Christmas 2012 we should be enjoying the first of the 2 movies.

The original films were an unknown quantity at this stage of production, and little known director Peter Jackson was spreading the word as much as he could that he was making the Lord of the Rings trilogy, no one could have anticipated how the film would re-write cinema history.

Hype for the two new films will reach fever pitch, anticipation will be higher than Star Wars Episode 1, but Jackson is a better director than Lucas and the feeling that these films will be nothing short of amazing is strong.

There is still a year and nine months until we get to see the films but expect the first production still soon and no doubt video vignettes and diary's to keep us interested. The original films had a web cam on set at the Hobbiton village; I'd like to see that return.
