This week British film Legend starring Tom Hardy crashes in at the top of the UK box office in its debut weekend of release replacing Compton after a couple of weeks.
Legend is based on the story of the Kray twins and details their rise to infamy, the film takes £5.1 million on it's debut.
Falling from the top spot to number 4 this week is Straight Outta Compton, now on its 3rd week of release it has grossed a very respectable £7.1 million.
Also new on the chart this week is Maze Runner The Scorch Trials which enters at number 2 and M. Night Shyamalan The Visit which is new at 3, this makes a whole new top 3 at the UK.
Woody Allen's Irrational Man also enters the chart this week at number 9, low for a new Woody Allen film.
Highest grossing film on the box office this week is Inside Out which now sits at £36.8 million after 8 weeks of release.
Historical charts
A year ago - Boxtrolls made its debut at the top of the box office replacing Lucy which fell to number 2.
Five years ago - Resident Evil: Afterlife was the new film at the top, it replace The Last Exorcism which tumbled to number 4 after one week.
Ten years ago - The Longest Yard starring Adam Sandler took over at the top, it replaced The 40 Year Old Virgin which fell to number 2.<> Fifteen years ago - Scary Movie debuted at the top of the box office with Snatch falling into the runner up spot.
Twenty years ago - Mel Gibsons multi Oscar winning Braveheart made its debut at the top leaving Batman Forever to fall into second.
Twenty five years ago - Memphis Belle debuted at the top leaving Die Hard 2 Die Harder to tumble to second place.
Two new releases lead the way this week, Will Smith and his son in After Earth and Michael Douglas and Matt Damon in Behind The Candelabra.
It's not the first time Will and Jaden Smith have starred in the film together but it's the first time they have both taken top billing, and like the film it very much a case of father showing son the ropes.
It's been kept quiet but M. Night Shyamalan directed this film, after a number of major flops Shyamalan's pull in the cinemas has fallen so the Smiths have done all the publicity for this film.
Unlike in the US, the bio-pic of Liberace is getting a theatrical release in the UK. Starring Michael Douglas and the flamboyant entertainer and Matt Damon as his lover the film has got good reviews.
Also this week we have The Iceman and The Last Exorcism Part II.
A lot of new releases this week starring the likes of Jim Carrey, Elijah Wood, Zac Efron, James McAvoy and then there's The Last Exorcism sequel. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a wacky comedy also starring Steve Carell alongside Jim Carrey about 2 superstar magicians who are being out performed by street magicians so they go for sabotage of their act.
Maniac is a serial killer story about a Mannequin shop owner who develops a dangerous obsession with an artist.
The Paperboy has a seller cast of Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman and John Cusack, the story follows a reporter who returns to Florida to investigate a case which involves a prisoner on death row.
Welcome to the punch is a criminal cat and mouse story about an ex-con who returns to London for family reasons and is then pursued by an old foe looking to finally get revenge.
The Last Exorcism Part 2 is is a sequel film about an Exorcism, clearly the last one wasn't the last one!
At the UK box office this week the very British The Inbetweeners movie continues is run at the top of the box office chart making it 3 weeks in a row.
Another good weekend for the boys adding £ 3,679,555 to its total gross, the film has done far better than expected to date and now sits with a UK gross at £34,992,321 making it the 3rd highest grossing film of the year in the UK.
In the rest of the chart, Rise of the Planet of the apes reverses it's decline of the chart and pops back to number 2 with £ 1,083,091.
Last week's highest entry slips just one place this week, One Day falls to 3 with a total weekend take of £ 1,048,343.
The Little blue men of The Smurfs continue their successful run staying at 4 with a take of £ 1,043,353.
Finally in the top five is the highest new film of the week, an Indian action film Bodyguard which takes just under the million mark at £ 839,695.
This week's top 15 is running higher than last year's where The Last Exorcism was a new entry at the top of the tree, and the only film to take over a million, and Avatar was still proving a popular hit 9 months after release.
