The gets a release in 44 countries and takes $85.6 Million on its debut to land at number 2, the movie has got very mixed reviews which could effect its performance going forward.

In comparison, Onward took $68 Million on its debut weekend and landed at number 1, but it was not a recognised IP and it was basically the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and people were starting to get nervous about cinemas before the world locked down.

The Tom Cruise high flying sequel has far outdone its expectation and on its 4th weekend drops to number 3 with $83 Million from 65 countries, it is a tiny 19% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken an amazing $885 Million globally and is the 2nd top movie of 2022, it is only a matter of time before it tops the list for 2022 and it will most likely top $1 Billion.

Sequel movie from South Korean director Park Hoon-jung enters the global box office at number 4 with a weekend gross os $9.9 Million from a single country release of South Korea.

Seven weeks on and the MCU sequel movie takes $6.7 Million and drops to number 5, a 35% drop over last weekend, released still in 52 countries.

The movie is getting close to the Billion dollar mark with $942.4 Million and is currently the top movie of 2022.

The UK box office came to a grinding halt in January of 2021 as the global pandemic took full grip of the country so there was no chart until the middle of May.

Once cinemas opened it was a slow start Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway coming out on top for the first few weeks, it wasn't until late June when Fast & Furious 9 was released that things started to hot up, then things started to go from strength to strength.

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 movie of 2021 at the UK box office.

No Time To Die

The much delayed 25th movie in the Bond series finally got released at the very end of September 2021 and after a massive debut weekend where it took nearly £26 Million the movie managed to do what Tenet the previous year couldn't, it got people mack in cinemas.

The movie, which is still on general release got mixed reviews from critics, and has an ending with split Bond fans, but to date the movie has taken £96.4 Million over 12 weeks of release and is the third highest grossing movie of all time in the UK.

Spider Man: No Way Home

The last movie from the MCU universe to be released in a year when Marvel/Disney/Sony had a fantastic return to cinemas, and after all the hype and rumours about what the multiverse would bring the movie took a massive &pond;31.9 Million on its debut in the UK.

The film was released in mid December so it still raking in the cash as your local multiplex, and will most likely overtake No Time To Die with its total gross as well as be only the third movie in history to gross over £100 Million.

With a total gross already over £50 Million after just 2 weeks it will most likely feature quite high on the top movies of 2022 as well.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Another MCU movie on the list of top movies if 2021 as the much anticipated new superhero hit cinemas in early September with a debut gross of £5.7 Million.

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - House of Gucci (1st weekend)
  • Highest debut - House of Gucci (@1)
  • Longest run - No Time to Die (9 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - No Time to Die (£95.4 Million)

UK box office top 5 breakdown weekend 26th - 28th November 2021

House of Gucci

Hitting the top on its debut weekend the movie stars Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in this true life drama brought to us by maverick director Ridley Scott.

The movie tops the box office with a debut gross of £2.4 Million, the lowest debut since Free Guy back in August 2021.

Although compared to director Ridley Scotts last movie, which also starred Adam Drive, The Last Duel it is far higher as that movie surprisingly underperformed.

The movie has a long way to go in order to beat Lady Gaga's last movie which was the 2018 A Star is Born which took over £30 Million at the UK box office.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Falling to number 2 after a single week at the top is the Ghostbusters sequel which takes just over £2 Million on its second weekend of release, a 51% drop over its debut gross.

This puts the movies total at £7.5 Million which puts it on almost the same footing at the 2016 re-boot, if maybe a little higher.

Encanto

Disney bring their latest animated feature to the big screen only, and unlike the rest of the world where it is the top movie it lands on the UK box office at number 3.

The movie makes its debut with £1.7 Million which is far better than their previous animated feature Raya and the Last Dragon which took less than a million but that was during the pandemic.

Their previous movie to that was Frozen II which made its debut in 2019 with over £15 Million, but this is a new IP and that has a massive built in audience, in all this is not great for a Disney labeled animation.

Eternals

Disney again, this time with their Marvel studios as the Chloe Zhao directed feature falls to number 4 with £586,304, a 52% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £13.8 Million and it is the 10th top movie of 2021.

No Time To Die

The 25th James Bond movie falls to number 5 this weekend with £492,635, a 48% drop over last week which isn't bad for a movie which is 9 weeks on the box office.

The film has now taken £95.5 Million at the UK box office and it takes the honor this week of slipping up to number 3 on the list of all UK time movies having Jumped over Spectre this week.

To go any higher it needs to break the £100 Million mark, a feat only achieved by 2 movies on the UK, Skyfall and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but its probably a feat too far for this movie.

On the UK box office this weekend Ghostbusters: Afterlife makes its debut at the top after a much delayed release, meanwhile King Richard starring Will Smith is a new entry at number 5.

Lower down the box office we have Petite Maman new at number 12 with £97,321 and Exodus new at 14 with £95,042 .

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Ghostbusters: Afterlife (1st weekend)
  • Highest debut - Ghostbusters: Afterlife (@1)
  • Longest run - No Time To Die (8 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - No Time To Die (£94.4 Million)

UK box office top 5 breakdown weekend 19th - 21st November 2021

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Coming 22 years after Ghostbusters II director Ivan Rietman, the son of original director Ivan Rietman, brings a sequel to the movies which started he much loved franchise.

The movie makes its debut with a gross of £4.3 Million which is almost identical to the 2016 Paul Feig female led reboot.

Although the movie was delayed a couple of times due to the pandemic its been released with quite a bit of hype, although critical reviews have been very mixed it seems to have been well received by audiences.

Eternals

The Marvel movie from director Chloe Zhao drop to number 2 this weekend after a couple of weeks at the top with a gross of £1.2 Million, a 58% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken a very reasonable £12.8 Million in the UK and is the 10th top movie of 2021 so far.

No Time To Die

Bonds 25th cinematic outing continues to do well and this week falls to 3 with a weekend gross of £940,075, a 40% drop and the first weekend it has failed to gross over £1 Million.

The total gross of the movie now sits at £94.4 Million, it is by far the top movie of 2021 and will remain there for the rest of the year.

It has now overtaken Avatar on the list of all-time UK movie and by next weekend will overtake Spectre to movie into the top 3 top movies.

Dune

The classic sci-fi adaptation from director Denis Villeneuve fall to 4 this weekend with £634,843, a 46% drop over last weekend, giving the movie a total UK gross of £20.1 Million and its the 4th top movie of 2021.

King Richard

Will Smith stars as the father of tennis superstars Serena and Venus Wiliams in the bio-pic of their rise to fame which lands at number 5 this weekend with £570,316.

There were a number of new releases at UK cinemas last weekend and this is very nicely reflected on this weeks box office with 6 new movies entering the top 10.

The list is headed up by the animated sequel Two By Two: Overboard! which makes its debut at the top, and in doing so brings to an ends the 8 week run of Tenet.

This weeks top 5 alone has 4 movies making their debut, then further down the box office is All My Life which makes its debut at number 9 and Max Winslow And The House Of Secrets which enters at number 10.

Also worthy of note, this weeks top 15 did far bette than last week with the combined gross nearly £1.5 Million.

Here is the top 15 box office Quickview.

  • Number 1 - Two By Two: Overboard! (1 week)
  • Highest debut - Two By Two: Overboard! (@1)
  • Longest run - Tent (9 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Tenet (£17,122,299)

Here is a breakdown of the UK box office top 5 23rd - 25th October 2020.

Two By Two: Overboard!

Makings its debut at the top of the box office is the animated sequel to Two By Two from 2015 which took £566,871 on its debut.

The follow up takes £329.265 on its debut weekend, which in the current COVID-19 climate of actually a good debut, the half term holiday will have helped.

Honest Thief

Liam Neeson brings his latest revenge thriller to the big screen and makes a debut at number 2 with £254,267.

It is worth noting that although Two By Two: Overboard! is the top film this is with previews and over the 3 day weekend this would have been the top movie.

The Secret Garden

Given the half term week I would have thought this new adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel would have done better but a debut at 3 with £154,087 is still good.

The original adaptation of the novel was in 1994 and starred Maggie Smith and was directed by Agnieszka Holland, it took over £3 Million at the box office.

Tenet

Despite the fact that Warner Bros. has not been pleased with the performance of this movie it spent 8 weeks at the top and only on its 9th weekend of release falls to number 4 with £134,968, 28% down from last weekend.

The movie is the 5th hight grossing movie of 2020 with £17.7 Million so far.

Pixie

This British heist movie directed by Barnaby Thompson lands on the chart at number 5 this week with £116,517.

It has had good reviews from critics so the future could be good for the movie and a long chart run possible.
