The Bad Guys

The new animated feature from the same studio that produced Shrek makes its North American debut at the top of the box office with a weekend gross of $24 Million.

Despite the fact this is no where near the $42 Million of Shrek from 2001, which is about $70 Million adjusted for inflation, this is a good debut for a new IP from the studio and should spawn a sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The blue video have hedgehog remains at number 2 this weekend with Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore jumping over it, with a weekend gross of $15.2 Million.

This is a 49% drop over last weekend giving the movie a 3 week gross of $145.8 Million and the 4th top movie of 2022.

Falling hard on its second weekend of release is the Fantastic Beasts third movie which falls from the top to number 3 with $14 Million, a big 67% drop on its second weekend.

The movie has taken a total of $67.1 Million in the US and with bad reviews and word of mouth we could see this disappear quite quick onto HBO Max, with the future of the series in question!

The Northman

Director Robert Eggers debuts his new movie, a Nordic action adventure starring Alexander Skarsgard and Nicole Kidman, at number 4 this weekend.

The movie takes $12 Million over its debut weekend, but with good word of mouth and critical acclaim this could see its better days ahead.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

A massive marketing campaign and fairly good critical reviews dont seem to have helped this Nicholas Cage self parody movie as it makes its debut at number 5 with $7.1 Million.

It was a tight battle at the top this weekend but The Lost City~2022 just about does enough to make its debut at the top of the UK box office.

UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 15th - 18th April 2022

The Lost City

After a weekend full of new releases the Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum starring action comedy makes its UK box office debut at the top.

The movie takes £2.7 Million on its UK debut, this higher than Tatums hit movie Dog from earlier this year but half that of Bullocks last cinema film Ocean's 8 from 2018.

The movie has been a hit across the globe with the UK one of the last countries to get the movie, but with a number of high profile movies coming in the next few weeks this could be a short stay for the movie.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

It was a tight margin between this and The Lost City~2022 at number 1 but the third Fantastic Beasts movie fell just short of a second weekend at the top.

With a gross of £2.6 Million, 55% down on its debut last weekend, and despite not doing that bad it is well short of the previous two movies Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the series has simply not had the impact of the Harry Potter series.

The movie is the 7th top grosser of 2022 and there is every possibility it could return to top next weekend.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

THe video game star falls to number 3 this weekend with £2 Million, a 29% drop over last weekend giving the blue hedgehog a total UK gross of £16 Million after 3 weeks and the 5th top movie of 2022.

The Northman

Highly praised by critics the Nordic action movie directed by Robert Eggers and starring Alexander Skarsgard and Nicole Kidman lands at number 4 this weekend.
