Highest new movie this weekend

As is the trend in cinemas in the modern era, with a new Marvel and Disney movie there is a new box office number 1 and it is a mjor even for the week of release.

With the release of the Black Panther sequel we get the first movie in the series since the passing of its star Chadwick Boseman which the movie deal with in the opening act of the film.

The movie makes its debut with a fantastic £13 Million debut weekend, although this is lower than the £17 Million Black Panther took on its debut in 2018.

In comparison to Black Adam which this film replaces at the top, that movie took £5.6 Million on its debut, in comparison to the last MCU movie, Thor: Love and Thunder which was also a sequel albeit the fourth in the series, that took £12.2 Million, so generally in the same ballpark.

The movie is also responsible for nearly 80% of the total of this weekends top 15 movies.

The Black Panther series, as well as Marvel in general, has a very strong fanbase who will keep this on the box office until the end of the year.

The Dwayne Johnson starring super hero movie falls to number 2 this weekend after 3 weeks at the top with a gross of £786,226, a large 61% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £18.6 Million after 4 weeks of release.

The Children's book adaptation falls to number 3 this weekend with a gross of £647,000, a small 34% drop over last weekend.

The movie has turned into a major hit and has currently taken £11.5 Million in the UK after 5 weeks on the chart, all of them inside the top 5.

The Irish Oscar contender falls to number 4 this weekend with a gross of £560,627, a 43% drop over last weekend.

The charming and heartwarming movie starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and directed by Martin McDonagh has taken £7.5 Million in the UK after 4 weeks of release.

Director Oliver Hermanus's movie starring Bill Nighy falls to number 5 this weekend, its second, with £492,047, a 27% drop, giving the movie a total UK gross of £1.7 Million.
