Next weeks there is 1 new movie

Although cinemas are far from back to normal in the US many cinemas have opened, although with limited capacity and many are making their audiences wear masks which are putting people off going back, The New Mutants tops the weekend with the closest thing to a pre-pandemic gross since mid March.

The Mutant movie was joined by Bill And Ted and David Copperfield as new releases on the top 5 which the top 3 all grossed over a million dollars.

There are a number of other bog new films released in the comping weeks including Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow which should all mean a growth in cinema going.

Here is the top 5 movies in the US weekend 28th - 30th August 2020.

The New Mutants

The movie had a troubled journey to the cinema having its release date movies a number of time, more recently because of the coronavirus but also due to scheduling problems and the 20th Century Fox buyout from Disney.

It has finally got the cinema and whether by design or not it is the first big release to hit the top since cinemas closed in mid March and it does so with a $7 Million debut.

Unhinged

After hitting the top last weekend the Russell Crowe movie falls to number 2 this weekend with $2.6 Million giving the movie a $8.8 Million total after 3 weeks.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

The movie should have come out earlier in the year before it was announced it would get a simultaneous movie theatre and VOD release.

The movie lands on the box office at number 3 with a debut gross of just over a million dollars, digital number are hard to come by.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

The movie hit the Uk box office back in January of this year and was a sizeable hit, after a couple of delays the movie hits US movie theatres with a $520K debut weeekend.

Words On Bathroom Walls

After entering the box office at number 3 last weekend the Thor Freudenthal directed movie falls to 5 with a weekend gross of $453K.

This takes the movies total gross to $1.08 MIllion after 2 weeks on the box office.

With cinemas still closed across the UK the home video market is still doing well and this week Birds Of Prey re-enters the chart at the top after getting the traditional Blu-Ray and digital to own release.

Starring Margot Robbie the DC supervillain movie re-enters the video chart at the top after its initial release earlier in the year.

The movie as hit at the box office back in February of 2020 where it made nearly £9 Million.

Dolittle

Despite being panned by critics the Robert Downey Jr. movie has turned into a bit of a hit at the box office and now on home video.

The movie goes back up to number 3 this week on its third week of release.

1917

The top grossing movie of 2020 so far falls to number 3 this week on its seventh week of release.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Another film which had a "home box office" release earlier in the year and now goes back up the chart on its blu-ray and digital to own release.

The Dev Patel starring movie is at number 4 this week.

Sonic the Hedgehog

The speedy blue hedgehog falls from the top to number 5 this week on its 11th week of release.

With no big new film released over the weekend 1917 remains at the top of the box office for a fourth consecutive weekend while the indie movie Queen And Slim is the top new film of the week at numer 7 where it heads up a quad of new releases.

1917

Te award winning film from Sam Mendes remains at the top of the Uk box office this week with a gross of £2.8 Million which is a drop of only 38%.

Considering the films length at the top of the box office this is an incredible hold, and is the film biggest week on week drop so far.

The film, which may get another boost after the Oscar Weekend on the 9th February, has taken £31.4 Million after 4 weeks of release.

Bad Boys For Life

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence has hit the top of the box office in many other countries, but in the UK it has been kept at number 4 now for 3 weeks, this weekend it took £1.8 Million.

This puts the film total gross in the UK at £11.3 Million after 3 weeks which by far makes it the top grossing film in the series.

Remaining at number 3 this week is the Dev Patel starring movie which takes £1. 03 Million giving the film a total gross of £3.7 Million after its second weekend of release.

Little Women

Greta Gerwig retelling of the Louisa May Alcott novel is at number 4 this weekend with £659,344 which gives the film a total UK gross of £19.9 Million after 6 weeks of release.

The Gentlemen

Guy Ritchies latest movie moves back into the top 5 this weekend with £597,494 which gives the film a £10 Million total gross after 5 weeks of release.

Queen and Slim

This Melina Matsoukas directed movie heads up the new releases this week at number 7 with £507,302.

The other new releases are A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood at number 8, the event cinema showing of Porgy And Bess: Met Opera 2020 at number 9 and The Lighthouse at number 10.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Falling to number 15 this weekend, and perhaps its last weekend on the UK box office the Star Wars sequel has had a bit of a disappointing run but is for this week the top total grossing movie with £57.8 Million.

Frozen II

Disneys other sequel movie on the box office this week is at number 14 and has the longest run on the chart with 11 weeks, it has taken £52.6 Million.

There is no stopping 1917 at the current box office as the movie reamins at the top of the UK box office with a massive margin again leaving the Bad Boys to spend a second weekend at number 2 while The Personal History Of David Copperfield is the top new film at number 3.

Sam Mandes war drama remains at the top of the UK box office for a third weekend with another massive gross of £4.5 Million.

This gives the film a total UK gross of £26.3 Million making it by far the top grossing film so far in 2020.

And just for the record it is now the top grossing film in the UK for Sam Mendes that isn't a Bond movie, and the film wont get anywhere near the total gross of those two films.

Bad Boys For Life

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have to settle for second place again this week as the movie takes £2.7 Million over the weekend.

This brings the sequel movie's total UK gross to £8.2 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

Highest new film of the weekend with a UK debut gross of £1.5 Million.

The film stars Dev Patel, Peter Capaldi and Hugh Laurie who are long term favourite actors in the UK and the film could hang around for some time to come.

Little Women
