As Disney continue to top the UK box office with their Pixar release Onward a rerelease of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring in its extended version enters as the top film wile Stage Mother is the top new film.

Here is a rundown of the top 5(+1) movies for weekend 24th - 26th July 2020.

Onward

Continuing its very impressive run at the top of the box office is Pixars movie which was also at the top when cinemas closed due to the virus, the movie has now spent 5 (non-consecutive) weeks at the top.

The movie takes £60K over the weekend which pushes its total to £5.52 Million.

Trolls World Tour

Considering this movie was available on VOD during the cinema closures and has only hit cinemas in the last few week its done well and sits at number 2 this week with £35K.

The movie has now taken £177K during its 4 week(ish) box office run.

Dreambuilders

Highest new film last week and goes up the chart this week to number 3 this week with £25K for a total of £46K after 2 weeks.

Dirty Dancing

Climbing up a place to number 4 this week is the Patrick Swayze dance classic with takes £24.8K which pushed its total to just shy of £4 Million, the movie has spent 16 weeks on the chart.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring

Re-released in its extended version the Peter Jackson classic movie which was first release in 2001 takes £24.1K.

This is the movies 16th weekend on the box office and has taken £61.6 Million in the UK.

Stage Mother

Highest new film of the week enters the box office at number 6, the movie is directed by Thom Fitzgerald and stars Lucy Liu and takes £19.3K on its debut.

The number one film was The Madness Of King George which had been at the top for 2 weeks.

The top new film of the week was Just Cause directed by Arne Glimcher and starring Sean Connery and Laurence Fishburne which entered the box office at number 2.

The longerst run on the box office and the top total grossing film was Forrest Gump which had taken £16.4 Million over 27 weeks of release.

Thirty years ago (1990) -

Making its debut at the top was Look Who's Talking starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley and directed by Amy Heckerling

The longerst run on the box office and the top total grossing film was Back To The Future Part II which had taken £10.4 Million over 20 weeks of release.

Looking like a true sequel to 1986's Rocky IV this sequel to 2016's Creed puts Apollo Creed's Son against Ivan Drago's son.

For those who don't remember Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed in the ring before being defeated by Rocky Balboa at the end of the film.

The BBFC have given Creed II a 12A rating for moderate violence, language and the film has a run time of 130 minutes (2hrs 10 Minutes).

Following on from its stablemate The Lego Movie from 3 years ago The Lego Batman Movie enters the UK box office at the top beating out Fifty Shades Darker in the process.

The Lego Movie opened this same weekend in 2014 to just over £8 million and The Lego Batman Movie has almost done exactly the same with opening to just under £8 million.

The Lego Movie went on to be the top grossing movie of 2014 with £37 million, time will tell with The Lego Batman Movie, this are looking good but we have a number of big franchise movies coming this year which could get in its way.

Fifty Shades of Grey opened in 2015 to £13.5 million over a valentines weekend, this week Fifty Shades Darker opens to £7 million at number 2, but not a valentines weekend, next week will be a tell time for the movie.

Sing falls down to number 3 this week with £2.3 million which brings the films total gross in the UK to £18 million.

Highest total grossing movie on the box office this week is La La Land which has now taken £26.4 million while the longest running film is Trolls which re-enters the chart and spends its 14th week in total.

Five years ago - Daniel Radcliffe enjoyed post Harry Potter success with The Woman In Black which debuted at the top, it knocked Chronicle down to number 5.

Ten years ago - Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore starred in romantic comedy Music and Lyrics which entered at the top while Dreamgirls fell to number 8.

Fifteen years ago - Monsters, Inc. debuted at the top of the box office, it knocked The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring off the top after 7 weeks of play.

Twenty years ago - Ransom was the top new film at number 1 on the box office, The Frighteners fell to number 5 after a couple of weeks at the top.

Twenty five years ago - Father of The Bride was the top new film of the week at number 1 while JFK fell to number 3 after a couple of weeks at the top.

Jackie Chan is one of, if not the top grossing and most well know star in China and his vehicle Kung Fu Yoga tops the global box office this week.

Now released in 12 countries the film takes $51.4 million for the week which brings the films total gross to $178 million.

With Chinese films dominating the top 3 Split is sitting pretty at number 4 this week and highest new film of the week is Rings at number 5.

Released in 32 countries the latest film from the Ring franchise tajes $28.2 million from its debut weekend which is split almost half and half with America and the rest of the world.

Highest total grossing movie on the global top 10 is Sing which has now made a total global gross of $487 million.
