News from around the web

Topping the US box office on its debut weekend Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom takes $27 Million, down a substantial amount from the $72.5 Million Aquaman took in 2018.

There is little surprise to this as Warner Bros. has not thrown its weight behind the movie and it marks the "end" of the Snyder Universe of DC movies with James Gunn about to take over as producer/director going forward.

Wonka drops to number 2 this weekend after a single weekend at the top, the movie does not seem to be doing as well in North America as it is across the rest of the world despite the massive popularity of its main star Timothee Chalamet.

Still a total gross of $75 Million isn't too bad, and this Christmas market will have likely pulled in some audiences for the coming week.

Also new on the top 5 this week is animated take Migration at 3, Romantic comedy Anyone But You at 4 and Indian hit movie Salaar at 5.

The US box office is having the quietest November in many years and this weekend an all new top 4 has Midway topping the chart on its debut albeit with one of the lowest takes for a top film, last weeks number 1, Terminator: Dark Fate, fell to number 5 on its second weekend.

Midway

Directed by Roland Emmerich the World Way II drama hits the top of the US box office with a very low for America $6.4 Million.

The film has performed better than expected for the studio and with little in the way of positive reviews once the late November and December big hitters are released the film will disappear quickly.

Doctor Sleep

Not performing as expected the sequel to 1980's The Shining enters the US box office with $5.2 Million.

With Halloween well out of the way and a busy period coming this will make its way onto home video quite quickly and unfortunately will slip out of the box office.

Last Christmas

A lot of publicity has hit this Christmas hit and the new film from director Paul Feig lands at number 3 this weekend with a gross of $4 Million.

The movie is being heavily publicised for its use of music from Wham! and the late George Micheal, especially the track Last Christmas which the film shares a title, this could see a boost more towards Christmas itself but it may as easily burn out quickly.

Playing With Fire

Starring John Cena a former WWE star the makers of this film must be looking for the kind of success that Dwayne Johnson has had but the film lands at number 4 this week with $3.5 Million.

Terminator: Dark Fate

There is no denying that the new Terminator movie, which had large expectations, simply hasn't re-ignited the once mighty franchise despite bringing back Linda Hamilton.

The film falls this week to number 5 with a weekend gross of $2.8 Million with a total gross in America now $40.4 Million.

The movie is falling fast and it will be lucky if it gets to $100 Million at the US market.

Joker

The DC Villain movie falls out of the top 5 this weekend but its the highest total grossing movie on the US top 10 with an amazing $306.8 Million after 6 weeks of release.

There is a new star studded adaptation of Louisa May Alcott classic novel Little Women coming this Christmas and today we get a new trailer.

With a cast boasting the likes of Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep, to name a few, you know this is going to be something special and judging from the trailer director Greta Gerwig who also brought us Lady Bird to critical acclaim in 2017 has done a fine job.

There have been a number adaptation of the novel hit the big screen with the most successful being the 1994 version directed by Gillian Armstrong and starring Winona Rider and Susan Sarandon which grossed nearly £3 Million in the UK.

This new version hits the big screen on December 26th 2019 and is set to be a big festive hit.

Check out the trailer below.

This Christmas marks the return of a Disney favourite in the shape of Mary Poppins Returns which hits UK cinemas on 21st December 2018.

Taking on the role of Mary Poppins this time is Emily Blunt and if the trailers are anything to go by she steps into Julie Andrews shows superbly.

The BBFC have given the film a U rating for very mild threat and it has a runtime of 130 minutes (2hrs 10 minutes).

It's been 54 years in the making but this Christmas Disney release a sequel to Mary Poppins called Mary Poppins Returns.

We had a sneak peek of the movie come month ago but today we get the full trailer of the film.

Hidden in the trailer is Dick Van Dyke from the original film and there is an animated sequence with style taken right from Mary Poppins.

Check out the trailer and new poster below.
