Released in the UK this weekend, Friday, 6th October 2023, there are 6 new releases looking to take your attention and where available could hit your local cinema and try and replace The Creator from the top of the UK box office.
Check out other new releases from around the world.
Here are this weeks new releasesCheck back on Monday to see what new movies made it onto the Weekend Box Office Chart.
Despicable Me 2 tops the UK box office on it's opening weekend and has the best weekend of the year so far, and grossing more than the rest of the top 10 combined.
Displacing Man of Steel from the top after 2 weeks, Despicable Me 2 came close to grossing £15 million on it's opening weekend beating the year best of Iron Man 3 by more than a million pound.
Also new this week in the top 10 are This is the End at 4 and Hummingbird at 5.
Inline with my predictions for the weekend Despicable Me 2 did indeed top the charts and This is the End had a top 5 entry. Hummingbird entered in the top 5 and although I predicted that I thought a top 10 was more likely.
Last year new at the top of the box office, and knocking Prometheus from the top was Ice Age 2, on limited release it still managed to top the chart with £800,000.
Five years ago it was all change, The Hulk sunk to third place as The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian topped the chart and Wanted landed at two.
Ten years ago there was also a change as Jim Carey starred in Bruce Almighty knocking 2 Fast 2 Furious into the runner up spot.
Fifteen years ago there was no change at the top as City of Angels hung on, the highest new film at 3 was Mimic.
Opening in UK cinemas this week we have Seth Rogan and gang in This is the End, Animated sequel Despicable Me 2 and Jason Statham in Hummingbird.
It's the end of the world as we know it and there is a gang of comedians to take us there. Seth Rogan co-directs with Evan Goldberg in This is the End. Emma Watson co-stars along with James Franco and Paul Rudd.
Not a lot of buzz about this film but the star potential, especially Watson will take this film into the top 5 especially as it's strongest competing at the moment is The Hangover Part III and that on it's way out.
Despicable Me 2 opens to a lot of media attention which has really focused on the comedy, and on the back of 2010's Despicable Me which grossed £20 million and spent 10 week on the chart.
With a built in audience and an appeal to kids this could well dislodge Superman from the top, if it doesn't it will certainly land at number 2.
Hummingbird sees hard man Jason Statham as an alcoholic ex-soldier suffering from the effects of way. Directed by first time director Steve Knight, writer of Dirty Pretty Things this will struggle to get a large audience but Statham does have a cult following, although as an out and out action hero.
Expect a 10 ten entry and possibly a top 5, but with a strong marketplace with Superman still doing numbers and the new films it may struggle.
