Spider-Man: No Way Home hangs onto the top of the global box office over the Christmas holiday period giving the movie 2 weeks at the top while animated sequel Sing 2 is the top new movie at number 3.

The King's Man is also new this week at number 5 while B For Busy is new at 6 with $10,283,876.

Spider Man: No Way Home

The latest Spider-Man MCU movie remains at the top of the global box office for a second weekend and is the first movie in 2021 to smash the $1 Billion mark.

The movie takes $202.9 Million globally on its second weekend from 62 countries, a 66% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $1.054 Billion globally making it the top grossing movie of the year having overtaken The Battle At Lake Changjin which current sits at $902.2 Million.

The Matrix Resurrections

Despite the pre-release hype for the movie, the fourth edition in The Matrix saga is not getting a lot of love at the box office.

After a release in a handful of countries last weekend ans making its debut at 4 the movie goes mega wide this week in 76 countries and takes $47 Million, an increase of 80% over last weekend, and jumps to number 2.

This gives the movie a total global gross of $69.8 Million, this is way lower than would have been expected from such a high profile release, but take into consideration that the movie has had tepid reviews and its on HBO Max in America.

Sing 2

Highest new movie of the week is the animated sequel to the 2017 animated smash movie Sing which took $634 Million globally.

The follow up takes $42.9 Million, from 39 countries, on its debut making it the top new movie of the weekend.

Fireflies In the Sun

Falling from 2 to number 4 this week is the Chinese movie sequel to Sheep Without a Shepherd which takes $35.8 Million from a single country, a 35% drop, for a total gross of $113.5 Million after 2 weeks.

The King's Man

Finally on the top five is the prequel movie to director Matthew Vaughn two The Kingsman movies which is a new entry at number 5 with $10.2 Million from just 8 countries.

With the 2020 box office collapsing in March due to the global pandemic the Chinese market was the first an quickest to recover and it dominated the global scene over the whole year.

The top grossing movie of the year was The Eight Hundred wich was released in August and did big business in China.

Chinese films accounted for 6 of the top 20 movies of the year and 7 of the movie were released in 2019 with a holdover in 2020.

Tenet which was the first big movie released during the pandemic made it into the top 5 movies of the year despite being considered a flop.

Many movies have had there releases moved to 2021 and cinemas did not have the massive tentpole pictures that would have pulled in over a Billion dollars in revenue, in fact its the first time in over a decade there has been no movie taking over $1 Billion.

A massive hit in China the action war epic is directed by Hu Guan and took $161 Million on its full opening weekend.

Over its full global release the movie took $441.8 Million making the top grossing global movie of the year.

Bad Boys For Life

After a lengthy gap Will Smith and Martin Lawrence re-teamed as the Miami cops and the movie was a global smash.

Released at the start of the year its release just missed the cinemas closures due to COVID-19 and took $418.2 Million.

1917

Sam Mendes released his Oscar nominated was movie in America in late 2019 but got its global release in early 2020 and its the 3rd top movie of 2020 with $375.4 Million.

My People, My Homeland

Directed by 7 of Chinas top directors this anthology movie took $101 Million durings its Chinese opening.

Globally the movie is the 4th highest grossing of the year with $371.1 Million.

Tenet

In America this movie was moved to an August release with studios hoping that cinemas would have re-opened after 4 months of closures, but the global pandemic had other ideas and although countries has started to re-opened cinemas had limited capacity.

The movie did relatively well in global cinemas but with mixed reviews it was not the film Warner Bros. had hoped, but a top five of the year is not bad with a gross of $362.6.

It was a closely fought battle for the box office crown this weekend but by the slimmest of margins The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part remains at the top.

The gap between first and second place this week was less than £4,000 but the brick movie still manages to hold on to the top spot for a second weekend with a gross of £2.47 million.

This brings the movies total UK gross to £7.4 million on its second weekend of release.

Instant Family

The feel good comedy starring Mark Wahlberg enters the UK box office at number 2 this week despite giving The Logo 2 Movie a good run for its money.

It took a debut weekend gross of £2.46 million.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

The threequel animated dragon movie is at number 3 this week with £1.6 million which gives its UK gross a boost to £11.5 million after 3 weeks.

Alita: Battle Angel

The Manga battle movie brought to us by James Cameron falls to number 4 this week with £1.4 million which brings its total UK gross to £5.1 million after 10 days of release.

Green Book

Finishing off the top five this week is the Oscar nominated drama from director Peter Farrelly takes £740.086 to boost its total gross to £5.1 million.

Happy Death Day 2U

Also new this week at 6 is this sequel horror movie to Happy Death Day which takes £735,000 on its debut.

The Kid Who Would Be King

Falling well short of expectation is this new fantasy adventure movie from director Joe Cornish, who also directed the acclaimed movie Attack The Block, which enters the UK box office down at number 7 with a debut gross of £666,000.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Still pulling in the punters 17 weeks after its release the Queen bio-pic has now grossed an amazing £53.3 million.

It was the Super Bowl over the weekend in America and with no notable new relases Glass remained at the top with The Upside not far behind, Miss Bala was the top new film.

Galss

M. Night Shyamalan phycological comic book triller spends its third weekend at the top with a $9.5 million weeeknd.

This pushes the films US total gross to $88.6 million and leaving the $100 million mark close.

The Upside

The Kevin Hart starring movie spends its third weekend at number 2 taking $8.85 million which gives it a total gross of $75.5 million.

Miss Bala

Highest new entry of the week is at 3, directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Gina Rodriguez the stylish action film takes $6.7 million on its debut.

Aquaman

James Wan's DC comic book film is still doing very well 7 weeks in and this week is at 4 and takes $4.7 million taking its US gross to an excellent $323.5 million.

Spider Man Into the Spider Verse

Finishing off the top five in this very quiet weekend is the Oscar nominated animation which boosts its US total to $175.2 million after a $4.4 million weekend.

Aquaman continues to show its might as it stays at the top of the global box office for a third weekend with little change across the whole of the top 10.

The James Wan directed movie still continues to reign at the top of the global box office with $136.9 million over the weekend from 79 countries, the films total global gross is now $748.7 million.

Bumblebee

Bumblebee is at number 2 globally with a weekend gross of $66 million from 56 countries, this brings the films total global gross to $156 million.

Mary Poppins Returns

The Disney hit is at number 3 globally as the film takes $57 million from 38 countries over the weekend, globally it has now taken $173.3 million.

Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse

Sonys animated hit is at number 4 this week with $45.7 million from 61 countries, this boosts the films gross to $231.2 million globally.

The Grinch

Finally on the top five this week is the Holiday hit which takes $21 million fron 70 countries to bring its total gross to $469.4 million.

Mojin: The Worm Valley

Highest new film of the week is at number 9, the Chinese film is only released in 2 countries and takes $16.7 million on its debut.
