British feel good comedy drama The Phantom Of The Open is given a 12A age rating by the BBFC.

The British love a true life underdog movie, like 2015's Eddie the Eagle, and here they go again with a golfing movie about an amateur player who got into the open!.

The movie stars Mark Rylance as Maurice Flitcroft, the amateur golfer who was accepted into the open, and Sally Hawkins as his wife, it also stars Rhys Ifans.

The movie is directed by Craig Roberts who brought us Eternal Beauty in 2019 but is better know as one of the stars of Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans.

Amateur golfer Maurice Flitcroft achieves his late-in-life goal of participating in the British Open Golf Championship, much to the ire of the staid golfing community.

Spider Man: No Way Home

Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man movie spends a fourth weekend at the top of the US box office with a gross os $33 Million, a slender 37% drop over last weekend.

The movie is the longest running number 1 movie since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, also from the MCU, also spend 4 week at the top in September 2021.

The movie is now the 6th top movie in the US of all time having just overtaken Titanic and Jurassic World and should overtake Avengers: Infinity War and maybe Black Panther by next weekend.

Sing 2

The animated sequel movie is proving to be a massive hit and this week remains at number 4 on the US box office with $11.9 Million, 39% down on last weekend.

THe movie has now taken $109 Million over 3 weeks of release.

The 355

Highest debut of the weekend is the Simon Kinberg action movie starring Diane Kruger and Pen�lope Cruz which after a number of delays finally arrives at number 3 with $4.8 Million on its debut.

The King's Man

Matthew Vaughn's prequel movie falls to number 3 this weekend with $3.7 Million on its third weekend of release, a small 27% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a $25 Million total gross on the US box office.

American Underdog

The sport underdog movie falls to number 5 this weekend with $2.4 Million, 41% down on last weekend, giving the movie a total of $18.7 Million after 3 weeks.

No new entries on the US box office this weekend gave Spider-Man: No Way Home a third week at the top while animated sequel Sing 2 stayed put at number 2.

Spider Man: No Way Home

A very quiet weekend for new movies as the new year rolls around giving the Marvel/Sony movie a third weekend at the top of the US box office with a gross of $52.7 Million, a slim 35% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now been at the top for 3 weeks and has taken a massive $609.8 Million in North America, and it is by far the top movie of 2021, and currently the top movie of 2022.

The movie has also broken into the top 10 movies of all time in North America at number 10.

Sing 2

Animated sequel to Sing hold firm at number 2 with a second weekend take of $19.6 Million, a very slim 18% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $89.6 Million in North America on its way to breaking the $100 Million milestone by next weekend.

The King's Man

Director Matthew Vaughn's prequel movie has had a strange release window and after making its debut at 4 last weekend jumps up to 3 this week with $4.5 Million, 29% down from last weekend.

The movie has taken $19.5 Million after 2 weeks of release.

American Underdog

Another movie on the way up at the sports based drama takes $4.07 Million as it jumps to number 4 this week from its debut position of 5, a 34% drop over last week.

The movie has now taken $15 Million after 2 weekends of release.

The Matrix Resurrections

Despite the fact that the fourth in The Matrix series got a simultaneous release on HBO Max and cinemas the movie looks destined to be a flop at the box office as the movie falls to number 5 this weekend with $3.82 Million, a large 68% drop over last week.

The film is competing with a similar market to the top movie at the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home which is potentially taking some of its audience, but after two weeks the much anticipated and hyped movie has taken just $30.9 Million.

There are 4 new entries inside the top 5 on this weekends US box office, but none were strong enough to keep Spider-Man: No Way Home from spending another big weekend at the top.

Top of the new releases was Sing 2 which came in at 2, followed by The Matrix Resurrections which was new at 3.

British movie The King's Man was new at number 4 and then finally in the top 5 American Underdog came in just below.

Also new this week is A Journal For Jordan which came in at 8 with $2.2 Million and '83 from director Kabir Khan came in at 10 with $1.76 Million.

US box office weekend top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th December 2021

Spider Man: No Way Home

The smash hit Marvel/Sony movie spends a second weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $81.5 Million, a 69% drop over last weekend which isn't too bad considering the giant debut gross the movie had.

The movie has now taken a total gross in the US of $467.3 Million making it now by far the top grossing movie of 2021 having grossed twice as much as the movie at number 2 for the year, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The movie also this weekend enters the top 20 US movies of all time at number 19.

Sing 2

Highest new entry of the weekend is the animated sequel movie which takes $23.7 Million on its debut.

The film is a sequel to the 2017 movie Sing which took $35.2 Million in North America on its debut on its way to $634.2 Million over 9 weeks.

The Matrix Resurrections

The long awaited follow up to the highly successful Matrix series of movies makes its debut this weekend at number 3 with $12 Million.

The pre hype for the movie was sky high, but an luke warm response on its release, and a simultaneous HBO Max release has by the looks of it damaged its box office potentital.

The King's Man

A prequel to the Kingsmen movies lands at number 4 this weekend with a gross of $6.3 Million.

Matthew Vaughn directs once again, but Ralph Fiennes takes over in the lead role this time, but diminishing returns seems to have set in for this series.

American Underdog

Making its debut at number 5 this weekend is this inspirational movie starring Zachary Levi about a down on his luck potential NFL great, the movie takes $6.2 Million on its debut.
