A very quiet weekend on the UK box office which has The Lego Batman Movie holding onto the top spot for a third consecutive week.

There is a virtually static top 6 with the Mark Wahlberg starring Patriots Day the top new film at 7.

On its third weekend at the top Lego Batman takes £2.8 million which brings its total gross in the UK to £23 million, compared to The Lego Movie this is still running a shade under.

The film took over £5 million for the period Monday - Sunday which made it the top film for the week as well.

A third weekend at number 2 is therefore in order for Fifty Shades Darker with £1.5 million for the weekend and £20.3 million in total.

With Sing, John Wick Chapter 2, Hidden Figures and The Great Wall all holding tight in the top 6 the highest new film is Patriots Day at number 7.

As mentioned, Patriots Day about the Boston Marathon bombing is the top new film and took £843,380 for the weekend and is one of the actors lowest debuting movies.

La La Land, which had a good, if confusing night at the Oscars this year, takes the honour of being the top total grossing movie this weekend with a total gross of £29 million and the longest running movie with a 7 week run.

Historical Chart's.

A year ago - Deadpool held on strong at the top of the box office while top new film was Grimsby which entered at number 2.

Fifteen years ago - Monsters, Inc. spent its third week at the top and with a strong top 5 the highest new film was Dont Say A Word down at number 6.

Twenty five years ago - The Prince of Tides made its debut at the top of the box office knocking off Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country after only a week at the top.

The Lego Batman Movie this week manages to hold on to the top spot at the UK box office, holding off Fifty Shades Darker, while John Wick Chapter 2 makes its debut at number 3.

With a £4.4 million weekend gross Lego Batman retains the number position in the UK for a second weekend.

The animated feature has now taken £17 million in the UK and is running just slightly behind the total gross of The Lego Movie.

Highest new film of the week is Keanu Reeves in John Wick Chapter 2 which makes its debut at 3 with £2.2 million.

Also a sequel but this time it is doing far better the its predecessor, John Wick made its debut in 2015 with just over half a million pound, so the sequel has done more than 4 times better.

Longest running film with 6 weeks and highest grossing film with £28 million is the Oscar laden film La La Land.

There have been many directors cuts of movies over the years, far too many to mention. One such movie is Star Trek: The Motion picture when it debuted on DVD, director Robert Wise was given the access and budget to improve the special effects and insert some extra scenes.

At the time of the DVD release of Star Trek V: The Undiscovered Country, director William Shatner, he who plays Kirk, wanted to give his Star Trek the same treatment, and maybe even give it a re-edit, he was refused permission.

Maybe it's because the 5th movie in the Star Trek series is considered a bit of a dud, maybe it's Shatner himself who knows, but Star Trek website TrekWeb.com is starting a petition to get this to happen.

If your interested, and I think all us Star Trek fans have a passing interest in knowing if director Shatner can make this a better movie, then head over to the site for more information.
