A very quiet weekend on the UK box office which has The Lego Batman Movie holding onto the top spot for a third consecutive week.

There is a virtually static top 6 with the Mark Wahlberg starring Patriots Day the top new film at 7.

On its third weekend at the top Lego Batman takes £2.8 million which brings its total gross in the UK to £23 million, compared to The Lego Movie this is still running a shade under.

The film took over £5 million for the period Monday - Sunday which made it the top film for the week as well.

A third weekend at number 2 is therefore in order for Fifty Shades Darker with £1.5 million for the weekend and £20.3 million in total.

With Sing, John Wick Chapter 2, Hidden Figures and The Great Wall all holding tight in the top 6 the highest new film is Patriots Day at number 7.

As mentioned, Patriots Day about the Boston Marathon bombing is the top new film and took £843,380 for the weekend and is one of the actors lowest debuting movies.

La La Land, which had a good, if confusing night at the Oscars this year, takes the honour of being the top total grossing movie this weekend with a total gross of £29 million and the longest running movie with a 7 week run.

Historical Chart's.

A year ago - Deadpool held on strong at the top of the box office while top new film was Grimsby which entered at number 2.

Five years ago - Spending a third week at the top was The Woman in Black while the top new film was The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which made its debut at number 2.

Ten years ago - Remaining at the top was Hot Fuzz while the top new film was The Number 23 staring Jim Carey which entered at number 3.

Fifteen years ago - Monsters, Inc. spent its third week at the top and with a strong top 5 the highest new film was Dont Say A Word down at number 6.

Twenty years ago - On its third weekend of release Ransom remained at the top while top new film was Michael starring John Travolta at number 3.

Twenty five years ago - The Prince of Tides made its debut at the top of the box office knocking off Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country after only a week at the top.

On the UK video front this week Stallone's Oscar nominated performance in Creed makes its debut at the top.

Creed, which is basically a Rocky sequel, made its debut on the box office chart of 15th January 2016 where it entered at number 3.

The film was critically acclaimed on its release but didn't manage to hit the high notes of the Rocky series and only spent 4 weeks on the box office.

The film managed a fairly decent £5.6 million over its run but it is low for a Rocky inspired movie which has many fans in the UK.

It's actually hard comparing this to previous Rocky films due to price inflation in cinema tickets but the last Rocky film, Rocky Balboa, spent a similar number of weeks on the chart but took £8 million.

The Hateful Eight falls from the top spot where it debuted last week to number 2 this week.

Also new this week are: The Danish Girl at number 4 and I Am Wrath, a John Travolta movie, at number 6.

The latest in the long running Fast and Furious series enters at the top of the video chart this week on its debut week of release on home video.

Fast and Furious 7 was released at the UK box office on 3rd April 2015, a delay in its release due to the untimely death of its star Paul Walker.

The film entered the box office at the top with an opening weekend of £12.7 million, the highest of the series.

A 3 week spell at the top gave it a total chart run of 8 weeks and netted it £38 million at the UK box office, it is currently the 45th highest grossing film ever in the UK and the fourth highest of 2015.

The film did phenomenal business across the world as well and is currently the 4th highest grossing film of all time with a global gross of $1.5 billion.

Cinderella falls from the top into second place on its 3rd week of release.

Also new this week is Unfriended at 4, John travolta in The Forger which enters at 6 and A Royal Night Out which is new at 7.

As happens each year the night before the Oscar nominations are announced the Razzie nominations are announced which celebrated the worst in cinematic achievements through the year.

Leading the field this year is the Transformers sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, which lets face it was truly awful and in the field for worst film along with All About Steve, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Land of the Lost and Old Dogs should win quite comfortably.

As these awards are something which are not taken too seriously, even by the foundation, in the worst actor category we have all 3 Jonas brothers up for a single nomination, in the same category we have Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy (who has had his fare share of nominations) and John Travolta.

Worst actress nods go to Beyonce, Sandra Bullock, Myley Cyrus, Megan Fox and Sarah Jessica Parker, and guess which of these was in the Transformers movie that may just pip the rest at the post.

The categories are not in the usual fashion and there is a category for Worst Screen Couple for which the Jonas brothers feature again and Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel, which of course the Transformers film appears in.

As we celebrated the end of a decade last year there are also categories for picture, actress and actor that were the worst of the naughties.
