This week in the US Ridley Scotts latest film lands at the top of the US box office on its debut week of release.

The Martian stars Matt Damon and enters the top this week with a great weekend gross of $55 million.

Falling from the top after just 1 week into second place is Hotel Transylvania 2 which manages a second week gross of $33 million bringing its total gross after 2 week to $90.5 million.

Incredibly the highest total grossing film on the box office this week is Hotel Transylvania 2, the longest running film on the US box office is War Room now on its 6th week.

The US box office this week saw a massive slump in tickets sold and was the worst labor Day weekend at the cinema for 15 years.

The number 1 spot was taken over by faith film The War Room which entered last week at 2 and climbs up to the top this week as it goes on wide release, it takes $9.3 million this weekend.

Falling to number 2 this week is the 3 times champion Straight Outta Compton which takes $8.8 million on its fourth week, the film has now taken $147.7 million.

Highest new film of the week is at number 3, starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte A Walk in the Woods takes $8.1 million over the weekend.

Also new this week are: The Transporter Refueled which enters at 5 and Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos which is new at 8.

Across the global box office this week Terminator Genisys gets a return to the top thanks to big numbers from its Chinese release.

The film was a relatively big hit earlier in the year on its western release and now gets a big boost and goes back on top, from 26 countries it takes $23.7 million for a global $409 million.

Highest new film of the week if War Room which is new at number 9, the faith based film take $11.3 million from just 11 countries.

Top grossing film on the chart is Minions which break the $ 1 Billion barrier this week and becomes the fourth film in 2015 to do so.

Straight Outta Compton took a 3rd straight week on the US box office, although in the US it was the lowest grossing box office weekend of 2015.

Compton this week takes just $13 million to retain its top spot and the film has now taken $134 million over it's 3 week run.

Highest new film of the week is War Room which enters in second place with $11 million.

The faith based drama only played in 1135 cinemas and took the highest per screen average of the weekend with $9,692 per screen average.

One other new film this week in the shape of the Own Wilson drama No Escape which is new at number 4.
