News from around the web

Video game adaptation Warcraft once again wins the global box office with out much of an issue, mainly from China when the film has become the biggest opening movie of all time.

The Duncan Jones film is released in 53 countries and this weekend takes $210.1 million of which $185.8 of that was outside North America.

The total gross of the film now sits at a not too bad $286 million, it will pass 300 this week but might struggle after that.

Highest new film of the week lands at number 2 in the shape of horror sequel The Conjuring 2.

Released in 45 countries the film takes $90.3 million led by its number 1 debut in North America.

Highest total grossing film across the globe this week is Captain America: Civil war at number 11 which has to date grossed $1.15 billion.

Here is the global top 5

  1. Warcraft - $210,155,975
  2. The Conjuring 2 - $90,350,000
  3. Now You See Me 2 - $43,125,000
  4. X-Men: Apocalypse - $35,000,000
  5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows - $28,100,000

This week at the global box office X-Men Apocalypse well and truely out grossed all other films to become the top film across the world.

A weekly take of $106 million ensured that it moved ahead of the crowd and its massive opening in China was largely the reason.

X-Men Apocalypse total weekly gross comes from 69 countries in total.

Openeing in second and thus the highest new entry of the week is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, it took $69 million for the week.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows was released in 41 countries this week.

Higest total grossing film on release worldwide at the moment is Captain America: Civil War which has a world gross now of $1.1 billion.

Captain America: Civil War in still on general release in 50 countries.

Here is the top 5 film across the globe for 5th June 2016:

  1. X-Men: Apocalypse - $106,725,000
  2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows - $69,250,000
  3. Alice Through The Looking Glass - $41,591,000
  4. Warcraft - $29,900,000
  5. The Angry Birds Movie - $26,475,000

This week across the world the latest X-Men film X-Men Apocalypse made its debut and took over at the top but it wasn't all bad news for Captain America: Civil War.

X-Men took $106.6 million dollars with its launch in 76 countries, but not America, and took over as the top film.

In the world of cinema it is becoming quite common for one Marvel franchise to take over from another Marvel franchise, especially when from competing studios.

With 41% of the non American market and topping the X-Men debuts in many of them this latest version of the X-Men films could be one of the biggest to date.

Captain America: Civil War has now become the first movie of 2016 to break the $1 billion mark (although The Force Awakens did it in 2016) and the film now stands at $1.05 billion and is number 3 this week.

It is also of course the highest total grossing movie on the world box office and is still showing in 55 countries, although with this and Batman V Superman slowing later in their run are we starting to see a letup in the superhero dominance of the box office? Here is the world box office top 5

  1. X-Men: Apocalypse - $101.6 million
  2. The Angry Birds Movie - $94 million
  3. Captain America: Civil War - $30.7 million
  4. The Divergent Series: Allegiant - $9.9 million
  5. The Jungle Book - $7.4 million
