North American box office breakdown weekend 21st - 23rd January 2022.

Spider Man: No Way Home

Climbing back to the top of the US box office this weekend is the Marvel/Sony Spider-Man movie which dipped to number 2 last week to allow Scream to have a week at the top but regains the crown on its 6th weekend of release.

The movie takes an amazing $14.1 Million on its 6th weekend of release which is a 30% decrease from last weekend.

The movie has now taken $721 Million in the US, this makes it already by far the top grossing movie of 2022 in America, but its also now the 5th top movie of all time.

By the time you read this is will have overtaken Black Panther to be the 4th top movie in America as it looks at the $760.5 Million taken by Avatar to enter the top 3.

Scream

The movie made a brave move last weekend and displaced Spider-Man: No Way Home for a weekend, but this week it falls to number 2 with a weekend take of $12.4 Million, a relatively large 59% drop over its debut.

This gives the movie a 2 weekend total of $51.3 Million and is the second top movie of 2022 in North America.

Sing 2

The smash hit animated sequel movie stays at number 3 with $5.7 Million on its 5th weekend of release, a small 28% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $128.4 Million and is the 3rd top movie of 2022, in comparison to the 2017 original Sing its running at about half that movies gross.

Redeeming Love

The highest new movie of the weekend is from director D.J. Caruso and starring Abigail Cowen in this love story which makes its debut at number 4 with $3.7 Million.

The directors last movie was in 2017 when he directed the action movie xXx - Return of Xander Cage which debuted at number 2 with $20 Million.

The King's Man

This movie has proved to be a bit of a slow burner as it remains at number 5 this weekend with $1.7 Million, a small 20% drop, giving the movie a $31 Million total gross after 5 weeks and is the 4th top movie of 2022.

Sony and Marvel have released a new, much anticipated, trailer for the new Spider-Man movie, and it has plenty of multiverse villains, but only one Spider-Man!

The trailer gives more hints to the story, but still leaves many, many question to what is going on.

It looks like there is still only one Spider-Man in the trailer, although there are many quick shots where its hard to see what is happening, but what is clear is Doctor Octopus played by Alfred Molina plays a large part in the movie.

We also get to see Jamie Foxx and Thomas Haden Church as Electro and Sand Man, but although we get a clearer picture of Green Goblin its not revealed who is playing the villain.

There are many many hints about universes coming together, and if Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield are not in the movie then if nothing else its a missed opportunity.

The end shot of the trailer which features Spider-Man and Zendaya's character MJ in a life and death situation is very reminiscent of the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which starred Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released in the UK on 15th December 2021 and in the US on 17th December.

After the cast of the new Spider-Man movie had a bit of fun with the title yesterday (February 23rd) today its been revealed the title will be Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The titles that were teased by the stars were Spider-man: Home Slice, Spider-Man: Phone Home and Spider-Man: Home Wrecker, as you can see 'Home' was clearly going to feature.

Now today Sony have released a video which gives the proper title a reveal and lets agree its better than the teased ones!

Its also worth remembering that "Home" has featured in all the Disney MCU Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and now Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The current rumours suggest that the movie will be set in the multiverse that WanderVision on Disney+ is currently teasing and the new Doctor Strange movie will feature, and as Benedict Cumberbatch's Strange will be in the movie is a fair guess.

There is also big rumours, although denied by Tom Holland, that previous Spider-Man actors Toby Maquire and Andrew Garfield could be in the movie as two previous generation villains feature in the shape of Electro and Doctor Octopus as played by Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina.

The movie is currently wrapping filming with Jon Watts directing and alongside Holland as Spider-Man is the returning Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.

The movie is set for a December 17th 2021 release and a trailer and official poster is sure to follow soon.

A new poster has been released for upcoming movie Soul which you can see to the right.

The movies release date is 19th June 2020 and it stars among others Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey and is directed by Pete Docter
