At the UK box office this weekend, Friday, 8th November 2019, there are 8 new releases looking to take your attention at the local multiplex and knock Joker from the top of the UK box office chart next week.

Midway

First up at cinemas this week is Midway, an Action movie directed by Roland Emmerich who also directed White House Down in 2013 which grossed £4.2 Million.

It stars Ed Skrein who last starred in Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (2019).

The film also stars Patrick Wilson who last appeared in Annabelle Comes Home (2019).

The Irishman

Next on this weeks new release schedule is The Irishman.

This new movie stars Robert De Niro who's last film was Joker (2019)

It also stars Al Pacino who appeared in Once Upon A Time ... In Hollywood (2019).

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino starred in Righteous Kill (2008) together.

The film is brought to us by veteran director Martin Scorsese.

Better Days

Next up this week is Better Days which is directed by Derek Tsang who directed Soulmate in 2016.

It stars Dongyu Zhou and Jackson Yee.

The Good Liar

Also this week there is The Good Liar from director Bill Condon who also directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 in 2011.

The film features Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen in starring roles.

Luce

The long list of new releases continues with Luce which is directed by Julius Onah who directed The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018.

It stars Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer.

Arctic Dogs

Finally there is Arctic Dogs from director Aaron Woodley who also directed The Entitled in 2011, the film stars Jeremy Renner and Heidi Klum.

Roaring into the UK box office at number 1 is Jon Favreau's live action remake of the Disney animated movie of the same name from 1994.

The Lion King

As expected the Disney movie remake of their classic animated tale hits the top in big style with a debut weekend of £16.6 Million.

The film took an incredibly 68% of the top 15 gross.

This isn't too far behind the live remake of Beauty And The Beast, which is so far the top grossing of this trend, which took £19.7 Million in 2017.

That film went on to gross £72.4 Million, so a £50 Million+ total is not out of the question.

Toy Story 4

The Disney Pixar fourquel takes £2.7 Million on its 5th weekend of release as it holds firm at number 2 on the box office.

The films UK total now stands at a very respectable £47.2 Million.

Spider Man: Far From Home

The post Avengers: Endgame movie falls from the top to number 3 this week with a gross of £2.3 Million pushing the films total to £27.2 Million after 3 weeks.

The film is now the 5th highest grossing film of 2019, and interestingly the whole top 5 of the year are Disney properties.

Yesterday

Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis film based on the music of The Beatles sits at number 4 this week with a weekend gross of £774 Thousand pushing its total to £9.9 Million after 4 weeks of release.

Annabelle Comes Home

The Conjuring Universe movie falls to number 5 on its 2nd weekend taking £770 Thousand for a £4 Million total.

Rocketman

The Elton John film has been on the box office for 9 weeks now and has taken £22.9 Million, it is at number 13 this week.

There was little doubt that the new Spider-Man movie would remain at the top of the UK box office on its second weekend of release with only Annabelle Comes Home making a new entry on the top 5.

Spider Man: Far From Home

The last film in the phase 3 of the MCU remains at the top of the UK box office for a second weekend with a gross of £4.3 Million.

This puts the films total UK gross at £22.5 Million which is well ahead of the films predecessors £16.8 Million after 2 weeks.

In fact the film is on par with Spider-Man 3 which is the top grossing Spidey film at this stage of release.

Toy Story 4

The animated sequel from Pixar is at 2 this week with a weekend take of £3.8 Million.

This puts the films total UK gross at &42.5 Million after 4 weeks of release and is the second highest grossing film of the year behind Avengers: Endgame.

The film is also the highest total grossing movie on the box office this week (outside of Casino Royale on its Secret Cinema run).

Annabelle Comes Home

The new film from The Conjuring Universe enters the UK box office at number 3 this week with £2.2 Million.

This is good for a film from the horror franchise and is the highest opening film from the Annabelle trology.

Yesterday

Danny Boyles Beatle influenced film is at 4 this week with a gross of £1 Million pushing the films total to £8.1 Million.

Aladdin

The Disney Live action movie has been a bit of a surprise hit and this week is at number 5 with £355,707.

This puts the films total UK gross at £35 Million and its the fourth biggest hit of the year so far.

The Matrix

Making a return to the UK box office for its 20th anniversary is the ground breaking movie from 1999 from the Wachowski siblings.

The film is presented in a brand new 4K restoration and takes £163,812 this weekend, the other 2 films in the series were also released in 4K restoration prints.

Rocketman

The Elton John films has the longest run on the chart this weekend with 8 weeks and has a total UK gross of £22.8 Million.

Spider-Man: Far From Home stays at the top of the global box office for a second weekend with The Lion King live action the top new film with a limited release.

Spider Man: Far From Home

3 weeks in and the Sony Marvel film stays at the top of the global box office for a second weekend, and lets face it last weekend, with a box office of $145.3 from 68 countries.

This pushes the films total global gross to $847 Million to date.

Toy Story 4

The Pixar animated movie stays at number 2 this week with a weekend gross of $68.7 from 46 countries, the films total global gross is now $424.7 Million after 4 weeks of release.

The Lion King

The latest live action movie from Disney makes its first appearance on the global box office at number 3 with $54.7 Million from only 1 country, China.

The film is released across much of the rest of the world this coming weekend and will top the global box office next weekend, and maybe smash a box office record or two.

The White Storm 2: Drug Lords

The Chinese smash hit falls to 4 this weekend with a gross of $33.6 Million from 7 countries for a $137.9 Million total gross after 2 weeks of release.

Annabelle Comes Home

The Conjuring Universe from falls to 5 this week with $23.6 from 79 countries for a $173.5 Million total after 3 weeks.

The web slinger marks the first MCU film post Avengers: Endgame in Spider-Man: Far From Home which makes its debut at the top of the US box office on its debut weekend.

Spider Man: Far From Home

Making its debut at the top is the web slinger which has a opening weekend take of $93.6 Million.

The film opened mid-week which also took on American Independence Day so including previews the films total gross rises to $185 Million.

Toy Story 4

The Pixar toon movie fell to number 2 this weekend with a gross of $34.3 Million which pushes its total US gross to $306.5 Million.

Yesterday

Danny Boyles homage to the Beatles slips to number 3 this week with a weekend take of $10.7 Million which takes its total US gross to $36.8 Million after a fortnight.

Annabelle Comes Home

Registering its second weekend of release the Conjuring movie falls to 4th this week with a take of $9.7 Million for a total cume of $50.1 Million.

Aladdin

The bg early summer smash hit starring Will Smith is at 5 this week with $7.6 Million pushing the films total US gross to $320.7 Million after 7 weeks of release.

Midsommar

Second highest new film of the week is director Ari Aster follow up to Hereditary which lands lower than expected at number 6 this week.

The film got high praise from critics but audiences were not so happy with the film, with previews the film has taken $10.9 Million.

Avengers: Endgame

11 weeks on and the MCU film is still inside the top 10, this week the film sits at number 9 and has a US gross of $847.8 Million.
