News from around the web

Marvel's Avengers: Endgame sits at the top of the US box office again as a number of new release come in and try to de-thrown it with Pokemon: Detective Pikachu coming closest.

Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel mega hit film spends its third weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $63 million.

This takes the films total gross to $723.5 million which means it is now the 3rd highest grossing film having overtaken Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, both from Marvel.

The only 2 films in its way to being the top US film ever are Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar it could do by next weekend but The Force Awakens could be a hard reach.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Highest new film of the week is the live action version of the popular Nintendo franchise which lands at number 2 with $58 million.

With a solid fan base and favourable reviews the Rob Letterman directed film could go on to be the top grossing Pokémon film to hit the big screen.

The Hustle

The con artist film directed by Chris Addison lands at number 3 this week with $13.5 million.

Stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson have a dedicated following which has helped the movie but with bad reviews this could sink quickly.

The Intruder

Starring Dennis Quaid and Meagan Good this Deon Taylor directed falls to number 4 on its second weekend and pushes the films total to $20.9 million.

Long Shot

Despite the positive buzz surrounding this film it falls to number 5 this weekend with $6.1 million pushing its gross to $19.7 million on its second weekend.

Captain Marvel

The Marvel superhero movie starring Brie Larson is on its 10th weekend this week pushes its total gross to $423.7 million in the US.

Disney dominate the global box office of 2018 but the Dinosaurs make a good challenge and Sonys Super Villain experiment pays off with Venom showing its legs.

Avengers Infinity War

Disneys Superhero powerhouse ran away with the global box office in 2018 with the first part of their Avengers story which will conclude in 2019.

Avengers: infinity War took just over $2 billion at the global box office, the first film to reach the milestone since The Force Awakens in 2015, also from Disney.

Black Panther

As if to rub salt in the wound Disney and Marvel also had the second highest grossing film of 2018 with Black Panther with took $1.34 billion in 2018.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdon

A strong international showing for the Dinosaur film stopped Disney from totally dominating the global box office as the Jurassic World sequel is the third top film of 2018 with $1.30 billion.

Incredibles 2

Your never far from a Disney movie and here is another as the mouse house's Pixar studios provides the 4th top film of 2018 with a gross of $1.2 billion.

Venom

Sony scored their biggest hit of the year at number 5 with their Super Villain movie from the Spider-Man Universe which took $855 million, the only film on the top 5 not to take over a billion.

Here is the top 10 movies globally of 2018

  1. Avengers Infinity War = $2.048 Billion
  2. Black Panther - $1.346 Billion
  3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingsom - $1.304 Billion
  4. Incredibles 2 - $1.242 Billion
  5. Venom - $855.1 Million
  6. Mission:Impossible Fallout - $791 Million

  8. Deadpool 2 - $741.5 Million

  10. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald - $627.5 Million

2018 was another year at the US box office where Disney dominated with their Marvel franchise and Pixar hit while there was a sprinkling of Dinosaurs and a Deadpool for good measure.

Black Panther

The top film in the US in 2018 was the critically acclaimed Black Panther which was released in February and grossed over $700 million during its box office run.

Avengers Infinity War

As if that wasn't enough Disney also took the second spot of 2018 with Avengers Infinity War which was released in April and took an amazing $678 million at the US box office.

Incredibles 2

And again as if that wasn't enough for Disney they also managed the third highest grossing movie of 2018 with their Pixar studio film Incredibles 2 which was released in June and grossed over $608 million.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Universal took the 2018 number 4 slot in the US with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and despite the fact that it took over $400 million in the US it was far from the 3 Disney hits above it.

Deadpool 2

Finally on the top five hits of 2018 in the US is the Fox property Deadpool 2 which took $324 million, interestingly Fox's movie devision is about to be acquired by Disney, and the film had a second dip of the box office over the holiday period.

Disney's Marvel domination is set to continue into 2019 with more high profile releases, and despite the lack of any Star Wars movies (another Disney property) on this list the anticipation for 2019's Episode IX is already growing.

Here is the top 10 film of 2018 at the US box office.

  1. Black Panther - $700 million
  2. Avengers: Infinity War - $678 million
  3. Incredibles 2 - $608 million

  9. Solo: A Star Wars Story - $213 million
  10. Venom - $212 million

For the third weekend straight the top two films in the UK are Disneys Christopher Robin and the sequel movie Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Christopher Robin's gross for the weekend, and unlike last weekend the only film to go a million pound, is £1.1 million which brings the films total after 3 weeks to a very respectable £10 million.

Staying on the runner up spot yet again Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again takes just under a million pounds, this now brings the films total to £61.6 million.

The top film so far in 2018 is Avengers: Infinity War with £70.8 million, there is every possibility that the Mamma Mia! sequel could beat this, but it could be a very close race.

Despite taking a little less than last weekend BlackKKlansman climbs the box office this weekend to number 3 with £922,806 which brings the films total after 2 week to £3.1 million.

The Meg is at 4 this week with £0.9 million which brings the films total to £13.9 million.

Finishing off the top 5 is new entry Searching which makes its debut with £765,050.

Top total grossing film of the week is Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Released on 27th April in the UK the BBFC have given the film a 12A rating for moderate violence, threat.

The film will see nearly all (if not all) the Avengers re-team as they battle with Thanos in his bid to take over the world.

Its been strongly rumoured that at least one Avenger will die in the movie with the big money on Captain America but don't rule out Iron Man or Thor not making it though this film.
