Miramax have launch an app for Facebook which allows you to watch a number of their films on the social networking site at a cost of 30 Facebook Credits ($3 or about £2.60) per rental.
The films are streamed so there is no downloading involved, and can also be watched full screen on your computer, iPad or a GoogleTV device (finally a use for the Google set top box.
The streaming is good and the definition is of a good quality. Naturally there is a social aspect to it all and you can arrange to watch films with friends if you desire and there is a game in the app as well based around casting and your friends list.
There are 20 movies available in the US, there are some movies available in the UK but not all 20. Like other online rentals the films are available for 30 days and then 48 hours after you start watching.
Check out the app on the Miramax section of the Facebook website.
CES is happening in Las Vegas this week and on Wednesday an invitation went out to the press for a joint Lucasfilms and Panasonic press conference concerning the eventual release of the Star Wars films on Blu-ray.
What is CES? Every January in Las Vegas an expo called CES showcases all the new technology that the large electrical companies are working on in a hope to get us excited enough to go out and buy them when they are released to retail, and for most become affordable.
So what will the announcement be? The speculation is that there will be the announcement of a release date and maybe a showing of some footage and possibly even a dossier of features in the 6 film set.
Of note it worth mentioning that this is also a Panasonic joint announcement, and with 3D being their push at the moment, and Lucas's desire to retrofit all 6 films with 3D there is the possibility of a 3D connection to the press event, who knows maybe there will be some exclusive 3D footage?
The event kicks off at 11:30am (7:30pm UK time) where hopefully we can get excited about an October release of Star Wars on Blu-ray, unless they announce the 3D versions of the films then we can all get utterly disappointed!
