It did fall to number 3 on its second weekend but during half-term it rebounded to number 2 and became a box office hit taking £15.8 Million over 6 weeks and only stopped its run because of the cinema closures.

Onward

Pixars latest hit may have had a shortened run but it is doing well in the home and this weeks rebounds back to number 2 on its 5th week.

The film was released early February in the UK and landed at number 4 on the box office with £1.4 Million on its way to £12 Million.

Bad Boys For Life

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence fall to number 5 this week from the top spot on their 4th week of release.

Here is the full top 10 home entertainment chart this week.

  7. Little Women
  8. Frozen II

  10. Jumanji: The Next Level

With the first quarter of the year over and most of the cinemas closed across the US it a good time to pause for a moment and take a look at the top film during the first 3 months of 2020.

Bad Boys For Life

Twenty five years after the first teaming of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence first hit cinemas the third film in the buddy cop movie beats all expectations.

The movie was a mega smash at US box office with a total gross of $204 Million, and it was still at cinemas before the close down.

1917

The movie was the hot tip to sweep the Oscars this year before everyone decided Parasite was the better film, but it didn't hurt Sam Mandes War Drama at the box office.

The movie was still a hit and pulled in a very good $158 Million at the US box office.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Despite getting a very mixed reaction from the Star Wars hard core, the much hailed end of the saga movie still pulled in the audiences with over $500 Million in the US box office in total.

In 2020 the movie took and impressive $153 Million.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Despite the early signs suggest this would be a flop the redesign of the main character Sonic pushed it to a $145 Million US gross.

Jumanji: The Next Level

Dwayne Johnsons sequel to the smash hit Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle didn't quite hit the same note but it was still a smash hit taking $141 Million in 2020, it has taken $316 Million in total.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Warner Bros. were maybe expecting a bit more from the Harley Quinn movie but it still managed a quite respectable $84 Million, no flop but no smash hit.

Little Women

Greta Gerwig's adaptation of the classic novel was praised by critics and audiences alike and took $78 Million in the first quarter of 2020 in the US, it has taken $108 Million in total.

Dolittle

This Robert Downey Jr. vehicle was never going to reach the heights of anything with Iron Man in but the film still did better than expected considering the bad reviews, it took $77 Million.

The Invisible Man

Just creeping in before the American coronavirus shutdown the Universal monster movie took a very respectable $64 Million, its box office run was cut short and the movie is now available on streaming services.

The Call of the Wild

Harrison Ford went back to nature for this down to earth movie which held its own at the box office with a $62 Million total gross, again the movie was still doing well when cinemas closed their doors.

It's the end of the first quarter of 2020, and with cinemas closed in the UK until further notice it seems like a good time to look at the top 10 films of 2020 so far.

1917

Sam Mandes film is by far the top grossing film of 2020 so far, with a total gross of £43 Million it has taken more than double that of the number film.

This is no surprise from the British director, the movie saw tipped for glory at the Oscar but ended up loosing out ot Parasite, still the British public took to the World War II film.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Despite the difficult production and fan feedback for the design of Sonic when the first trailer came out, director Jeff Fowler went back to the drawing board and re-did the central character and it seems to have worked.

The movie ended up grossing a very good £19 Million, far than than was expected.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Despite an amount of disappointment from a section of the Star Wars fan base the last episode of the "Skywalker Saga" did very well over the holiday period, altohugh it is the lowest grossing of the sequel trilogy.

A gross of £18 Million in 2020 adds to the £39 Million taken in December of 2019.

Little Women

Greta Gerwig's adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic novel was a fan favourite which took £17.7 Million at the ox office.

Bad Boys For Life

Many people had written this film off before release but the repairing of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence worked and the movie grossed nearly £16 Million at the UK box office.

Dolittle

Another surprise hit as the Robert Downey Jr. movie took £15.8 Million at the box office.

Jumanji: The Next Level

Dwayne Johnson's sequel may not have been the smash Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was but it still manages a respectable £14.7 Million.

Parasite

Winning the best film Oscar did this South Korean movie wonders as it became the highest grossing foreign language film ever in the UK with a total of £12 Million.

The Gentleman

Guy Ritchie returns to his directiorial roots with this London based gangster movie which took £11.5 Million.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

More was expected from this Harley Quinn movie starring Margot Robbie but the film under performed, it still managed a £8.8 Million total gross.

With the release of a new Disney Pixar movie we get a new number film film as Onward makes its debut at the top knocking off The Invisible Man while British movie Military Wives makes its debut at number 3.

Onward

Disney and Pixar release their latest movie and first film in a while that is not a sequel which makes its debut at the top of the box office with £3.4 Million.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus has had an impact on the box office and this films debut gross is lower than expected.

Depending on how things pan out this could have a major effect on the current releases, but Disney have the power to keep this in cinemas as we could see a boost over the upcoming Easter holidays.

The Invisible Man

Falling to number 2 after a single week at the top Universals alternative monster movie takes £1.5 Million over the weekend to give it a £5 Million total gross after 2 weeks of release.

Military Wives

Following the fortunes of a group of British women who husbands are on active duty who come together to form a quire the movie makes its debut at number 3 with just under a million.

Movies like this have always done well in the UK and although this doesn't have the same pull as the likes of Calendar Girls the film could see a long run at the box office.

Sonic the Hedgehog

The former number 1 Jim Carrey starring video game adaptation falls to number 4 this week with £951,103 which give it a £18 Million total after 4 weeks of release.

Parasite

Finally on the top 5 is the Oscar winning movie which this week becomes the highest grossing foreign language film in the UK as its gross goes to £11 Million after 5 weeks.

The movies weekend gross is £529,550, the whole of the top 5 having clearly been hit by the public not going to their local multiplexes.

1917

The highest total grossing movie and the longest run on this weeks box office with £43 Million after 9 weeks of release.

A new Pixar film is always something to watch closely on the box office and this week with the release of Onward the movie hits the top of the US box office but the figures are lower than expect, while The Way Back starring Ben Affleck also gets a high new entry in the top 5.

Onward

With the current spread of the Coronavirus hitting the US the box office was overall lower than it could have been, and despite getting good reviews the new Disney/Pixar movie hit the top with $40 Million over the weekend.

This is certainly on the lower end of a Pixar movie, but those who travel to a movie theatre enjoyed the movie.

Looking forward the road might be tough and the film could end up with a smaller gross despite the movies popularity.

The Invisible Man

As expected the Universal modern monster movie fell to number 2 this week with $15.1 Million over the weekend.

This brings the films total US gross to $52.6 Million after 2 weeks of release.

The Way Back

Landing as number 3 this weekend is the new film starring Ben Affleck and directed by Gavin O'Connor which grosses $8.5 Million over its debut.

Sonic the Hedgehog

The Call of the Wild

Harrison Ford stars in the movie at number 5 with a weekend gross of $7 Million taking the films total gross ot $57.4 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Parasite

The Oscar winning film spends its 21st weekend on the box office making it the film with the longest run, its total gross is $52.8 Million.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The film with the highest total gross this week sits at number 12 with $315.8 Million after 13 weeks.
