This weekend, Friday 22nd November 2019, there are 6 new films released in the UK looking to hit the box office, but can it challenge Last Christmas for the top spot?

Frozen II

First up at cinemas this week is Frozen II, a movie directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee who also directed Frozen in 2013 which grossed £43.1 Million in the UK and grossed $1,276,480,335 globally.

It stars Idina Menzel who last starred in Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018).

The film also stars Kristen Bell who also last appeared in Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018).

21 Bridges

Next on this weeks new release schedule is 21 Bridges.

This new movie stars Chadwick Boseman who's last film was Avengers: Endgame (2019)

It also stars J.K. Simmons who also appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

The film is brought to us by 2 time director Brian Kirk.

Ophelia

Next up this week is Ophelia which is directed by Claire McCarthy who directed The Waiting City in 2009.

Brightburn

Next on the new release schedule is Brightburn, this new Horror movie stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman who starred in Power Rangers together.

The film is brought to us by new director David Yarovesky.

Child's Play

Next up this week is Child's Play which is directed by Lars Klevberg and is a directorial debut.

It stars Aubrey Plaza and Mark Hamill.

This week saw the launch of the origin Transformers movie in China and the boost gave the film enough to top the global chart knocking Aquaman from the top despite the DC movie nearing a billion in grosses.

Bumblebee

With an $82 million debut in China the Transformers movie moves to the top spot on the global box office with a weekend gross of $95 million from 63 countries.

This brings the films total global gross to $289.1 million.

Aquaman

The DC Universe movie has been a mega smash across the globe and takes $86.9 million this weekend from 79 countries but falls from the top to number 2.

The film is nearly at a billion dollars with $940 million and will reach the milestone by next weekend.

Mary Poppins Returns

The Mary Poppins sequel has not been the global hit Disney may have been looking for, but a $38.7 million weekend from 47 countries puts the film at number 3.

The films total gross now sits at $258 million after 3 weeks of release.

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

The Disney film falls to number 4 this week with $29.6 million from 32 countries which brings its total gross to $404 million.

Spider Man Into the Spider Verse

The animated feature takes $24.7 million this weekend from 61 countries, this boosts the Sony movies total to $275.2 million.

Disney gets another number 1 film over Christmas as the Mary Poppins sequel goes to the top on its debut weekend.

Mary Poppins Returns

Despite the fact that its been 54 yeas in the making, the new film based on the famed Disney character gets to be the new number one film in the UK, maybe what helped was the fact it get the widest ever release in the UK showing on 740 cinemas.

The film takes £8.1 million on its debut, comparing this to the original film is hard as records weren't kept but we know the film took about £14 million during its cinematic run.

Aquaman

The DC Universe film falls to number 2 this week with a £2 million second weekend to bring its total UK gross to £10 million.

The Grinch

The seasonal favourite from the book by Dr Seuss is 7 weeks in and at number 3 this week it takes £1.8 million to boost its total gross to £22.6 million.

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

Falling to number 4 this week the sequel movie from Disney takes £1 million which brings the films total gross to £11 million after 4 weeks of release.

Spider Man Into the Spider Verse

After debuting high last week the Spider-Man animation falls to number 5 this week with a gross just under a million, this brings the filsm second weekend total gross to £4.1 million.

Aquaman gets a release in China this week an manages to top the global box office with its debut from that single terretory leaving a fairly predictable rest of the chart.

Aquaman

China gets the next superhero movie before the rest of the world and from this single terretory beats all other film with ease.

A China (and global) debut of $91 million gives the film a global gross of $93.6 million including previews, the film releases in many more territories this coming weekend.

The Grinch

The Dr. Suess adaptation goes back to number 2 as we get closer to Christmas as the animation takes $41 million from 63 countries for a total gross of $322 million.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Still bringing in the audience at 3 is the Bryan Singer directed movie takes $35.2 million from 73 countries to push its total gross to an incredible $596.5 million.

The film is now Bryan Singers top grossing film in the UK and second top grossing film globally beating out nearly all the X-Men movies.

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

Still doing well but loosing steam the Disney film drops to number 4 this week with a global gross of $34 million from 31 countries, total global gross is now $258 million.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The JK Rowling penned film drops to number 5 this week with $28 million from a massive 81 countries to boost its total gross to a respectable $568.5 million.
