
US release: 9th January 2026Horror movie sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites makes its debut at the top of the global box office this weekend with a very good first weekend gross of $187 Million from 67 countries.
It is the top grossing debut of the series and the top grossing debut of the overall The Conjuring Universe.
Last weeks top movie The Shadows Edge falls to number 3 this weekend and has a total global gross of $148.7 Million.

The Avatar sequel movie Avatar: The Way of Water spends its 4th weekend as the top movie globally as its total global gross powers towards the $2 Million mark.
The new year brings little in the way of new movies with the Guy Ritchie directed film Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre the top debut with $6.9 Million at number 6 from 31 countries.
Spending a fourth weekend at the top of the global box office the Avatar sequel takes $177.6 Million from 53 countries, a small 29% drop.
As the movie heads towards the $2 Billion milestone in global grosses it currently sits at $1.7 Billion from 4 weeks of play.
After a release in a few countries last weekend the new film from director Gerard Johnstone hits 35 countries this week and jumps from 9 to 2 with $40 Million, an 92% jump over last weekend.
After 2 weeks of play the movie has taken a very nice $45 Million iin global grosses.
The animated sequel to Puss in Boots falls one place to number 3 this weekend with $39.9 Million from 78 countries, a 1% increase over last weekend.
After 6 weeks of release the movie has now taken an impressive $197.4 Million.
The latest Tom Hanks movie goes wider in 11 countries and takes $8.2 Million over the weekend jumping from 13 to 4 this week.
An 11% increase in weekend grosses pushes the movies global taking at $12.6 Million.
Remaining at number 5 this weekend with a gross of $7 Million, a 44% drop, in the Whitney Houston bio-pic which is on wide release in 47 countries.
The movie has taken $41.4 Million over its 3 weeks of release.
The much delayed Fast & Furios 9 made its debut in China this weekend and not only topped the box office there but was the biggest film of the weekend globally.
Also making a very strong first weekend on the box office is Love Will Tear Us Apart which makes its debut at number 2 this week.

As with most movies at the moment this is over a year late coming to cinemas, but as expected the latest episode in the Fast series makes a fantastic debut.
The movie takes a very impressive $162.3 Million over its debut weekend from just 8 countries.
Also making its debut on the global box office is Chinese director Mo Sha's latest movie which takes $14.8 Million over the weekend from just 1 country.
The movie got a mid week release and has taken $30.3 Million since its debut.
As cinemas start to open the sequel movie to Peter Rabbit has gone into more and countries and hence has been around for 9 weeks.
This week the movie is at 3 with $8.4 Million from 11 countries, a 70% increase from last weekend, and it has taken a global total of $30.2 Million.
The horror franchise movie has been on the global box office for 2 weeks now and falls to 4 with $7.2 Million from 22 countries, down 40% from last weekend.
To date the movie has taken $22.5 Million globally.
Falling to number 2 this week is Guy Ritchies latest movie which takes $6.3 Million this weekend from 30 countries, 60% down, for a $65.7 Million total from 5 weeks.
The latest Terminator film went wide this last weekend and although the film topped the global box office its a worrying time for the franchise, highest new entry is Weathering With You at number 6.
The new terminator movie opens wide this week in an extra 39 countries which brings its country count to 49 and takes $101.9 Million over the weekend.
The film way have made its way to the top of the global box office but this is lower at this point in the films run than the previous film Terminator Genisys which was considered a flop.
This entry in the long running franchise was supposed to be the start of a new trilogy, ironically like the previous film, but with these figures a long post mortem will need to be had.
Despite a slow start the Angelina Jolie sequel movie seems to be holding its own at the box office and this week takes $52.6 Million from 57 countries.
This boosts the films total global gross to $383.2 Million after 3 weeks of release, the film no doubt helped by Halloween last week and heavy promotion from Disney.
The DC villain movie continues to defy the odds and this week falls only to number 3 after 5 weeks of release with $50.9 Million from 80 Countries.
This pushes the films total gross to $934 Million and it should pass the Billion mark by next weekend or the weekend after.
Last weeks top film falls to number 4 this week with $47.7 Million from just 3 countries, the film total gross is now $170.2 Million.
The animated feature based on the Spooky Kooky family is at 5 this week with $34.4 Million from 33 countries for a total of $129 Million after 4 weeks.
Highest new film of the week is at number 6 with this Chinese animated movie, its not the films first week of release but as the film expands to 11 countries it makes its first appearance on the global box office.
The film takes $26.2 Million over the weekend for a total gross of $161.3 Million.
Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 opened up is a number of major territories this week and duly remains at the top of the global box office.
The James Gunn directed film starring Chris Pratt got its US debut this week and with release in 56 countries takes $268.8 million on its second week.
This pushed the films total global gross to $427.6 million, well on its way to a billion, this first Guardians film made $774 million and this could make the extra quarter of a billion to be yet another Marvel film to make the mark.
Showing great promise is Baahubali 2 The Conclusion which this week is at number 2 with $47 million from 11 countries, this pushes the film total gross to $147 million.
Two film on the top 5 this have grossed over a billion, Fast and Furious 8 at number 3 has taken $1.158 billion and Beauty and The Beast has now taken $1,185 billion and is at 5 this week.
There are no new entries on the global box office this week, no surprise with the wider release of Guardians this week.
