Maverick director Steven Spielberg releases his much anticipated, and much delayed, remake of West Side Story which should have been an easy number 1 movie but it was released the same weekend as children's favourite Clifford the Big Red Dog and and the two had a mighty battle for the top spot!

Also new this week is a re-entry for the Christmas favourite Home Alone which gets another holiday release this year and enters at number 7 this week with £122,299.

West Side Story

Director Steven Spielberg brings his latest movie to the big screen, his first since 2018's Ready Player One, and it narrowly hits the top of the weekend box office on its debut weeekend.

The movie which is baed on the 1957 Broadway show of the same name takes £1.297 Million over the weekend.

The movie had a tight fight with Clifford the Big Red Dog and in the end there was less than half a million pound separating them.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Landing at 2 this week is the children's classic animated TV show which here gets the big screen treatment with a large CGI dog.

The movie is directed by Walt Becker and stars Britains own Jack Whitehall, it took £1.293 Million over its debut weekend.

House of Gucci

The Ridley Scott directed true life drama falls to 3 this week taking £779,973 on its 3rd weekend of release, a 48% drop over last weekend which gives it a UK total gross of £7.3 Million.

Encanto

The Disney animated feature falls to 4 this week with £635,387, a 50% drop over last week, giving the movie a 3 week total of £4.2 Million.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Finishing off the top 5 this week is the Ghostbusters sequel which takes £585,505 on its 4th weekend of release, a 45% drop, giving it a £10.1 Million total.

Eternals stays at the top of the US box office for a second weekend despite a challenge from the kids movie Clifford the Big Red Dog which comes in at number 2.

Further down the box office the new movie from Kenneth Branagh, Belfast, makes its box office debut at number 8 with a debut gross of $1.8 Million.

US box office top 5 weekend breakdown 12th - 14th November 2021

Eternals

Marvels latest movie stays at the top of the US box office for a second weekend taking $27.5 Million, a large 61% drop over last weekend.

This is a in line with the other Marvels films of 2021 with Black Widow dropping 67% on its second weekend (it was available on Disney+) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings dropping 50%.

The movie has taken $118.7 Million in the US so far which is a little lower the the other 2 2021 Marvel movies but too far off, the Chloe Zhao movie did get unfavourable reviews on release which will have perhaps stopped the casual viewer.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Based on the Animated series of the same name this live action version is directed by Walt Becker and stars Darby Camp and Jack Whitehall and father and daughter.

The movie got its debut on Wednesday of last week and has taken $22.2 Million since release, but over the Friday - Sunday release window took $16.4 Million.

Dune

The movie based on the sci-fi classic novel falls to number 3 this weekend with a gross of $5.5 Million, a small 28% drop over last weekend considering its on its 4th weekend of release.

The total gross of the film now sits at $93.1 Million in the US, and it should break past the $100 Million mark before it leave cinemas, it has been available on HBO Max since release which will have affected its box office gross.

No Time To Die

Daniel Craigs final Bond movie falls to number 4 this weekend with $4.6 Million on its 6th weekend of release, a small 25% drop over last weekend which is excellent for a movie this old, and it got its streaming release this week in the US.

The movie has now taken a very good $150.4 Million in the US which makes it the 4th top movie of 2021.

The film is still the lowest grossing DAniel Craig Bond outing, but there is a chance it could catch up with his early outings, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace which both took just shy of $170 Million in the US.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Sony's Spiderverse villain movie has ended up being a big hit in the US and this week after 7 weeks of release falls to number 5 with a weekend gross of $4 Million, a very small 10% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken an amazing $202.7 Million in the US and is the second top grossing movie of 2021 behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
