The UK box office didn't get started in 2021 until 24th May so the summer season is the first season of the year to get any results from ticket sales after the last box office chart being 25th December 2020 and Wonder Woman 1984 topping that chart.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

The top movie of the summer got off to a flying start which was Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and it took £4 Million the weekend cinemas re-opened.

The sequel movie directed by Will Gluck and starring James Corden as Peter was the top movie in the country for the first weekend audiences were allowed back into cinemas and it hung around for 12 weeks and has to date taken over £20 Million.

Black Widow

The much delayed Black Widow finally got a release on 23rd July 2021 and topped the box office for 3 weeks.

The movie starring Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh was on the UK top 15 for 15 weekend and has to date grossed over £18 Million and is the second top movie of 2021.

Fast & Furious 9

The Fast Saga was back this year with Fast & Furious 9 which was released at the end of June and topped the box office for a couple of weeks.

The movie has taken over £16 Million in the UK and is the third top movie of summer 2021.

The Suicide Squad

There was a lot of hype around the James Gunn adaptation of The Suicide Squad which was released in late July and topped the box office on its release and the following weekend.

A 6 week UK box office run saw it gross £13 Million and is the fourth top in the UK over the summer of 2021.

Free Guy

A bit of a sleeper hit was the fifth top movie of the summer as Ryan Reynolds Free Guy which topped the box office in mid August for 3 weeks and has taken over £13 Million so far.

The movie is still on the box office as we go into the autumn and only got knocked off the top of the UK box office this last weekend by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The top 10 movies of Summer 2021 looks like this.

  1. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway - £20 Million
  2. Black Widow - £18.6 Million
  3. Fast & Furious 9 - £16.4 Million
  4. The Suicide Squad - £13.8 Million
  5. Free Guy - £13.2 Million
  6. Space Jam: A New Legacy - £12.2 Million
  7. Jungle Cruise - £11.7 Million
  8. A Quiet Place Part II - £11.5 Million
  9. Cruella - £9.44 Million
  10. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It - £9.4 Million

After making its debut at the top of the UK box office last weekend, A Quiet Place Part II remains there for a second weekend and is the only movie to gross over £1 Million.

New action movie Nobody is the top new movie which makes its debut at 5 and Oscar winning movie The Father makes its chart debut at number 6 with £397,418.

  • Number 1 - A Quiet Place Part II (2nd Weekend)
  • Highest debut - Nobody (@5)
  • Longest run - (joint) Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (4 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (£13.9 Million)

UK box office top 5 breakdown for weekend 11th - 13th June 2021

A Quiet Place Part II

Director John Krasinski horror movie spends a second weekend at the top of the Uk box office chart with a gross of £1.3 Million, a 63% drop from its debut last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of £6.4 Million after 2 weeks of release which is almost identical to the sequels first movie from 2018.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

The sequel movie from director Will Gluck remains at number 2 this weekend with £798,985, a 61% drop from last weekend.

The movie has been on the box office now for 4 weeks and has taken £13.9 Million, only Tenet from last year has taken more during the pandemic but this is on course to beat that movies £17.5 Million.

Cruella

Disney's prequel movie continues to do well at the box office and this weekend stays at number 3 with £732,285, only 43% lower than last weekend.

The movie has now taken £5.9 Million over 3 weeks of release.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

The Conjuring sequel movie stays at number 4 this weekend with £664,829, only 36% down from last weekend, giving the movie a £6.7 Million total after 3 weeks.

Nobody

Highest new movie of the week is at number 5 with this movie from the writer of John Wick Derek Kolstad and directed by Ilya Naishuller.

The movie takes £574,399 on its debut, a little lower than expected maybe, but with the good weather in the UK and people still unsure about spending a long time in small spaces with strangers this is to be expected.
